Photo Project Creator doesnt' work

Post by justbob »

After looking at reviews, I took the big step and bought the download version of Photo Pro X3, which got me a 2nd download file called Photo Essentials 4. Installed X3 first, then PE4. I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled 'till I'm blue in the face. X3 looks like a good product, at least with the little I've done so far. But . . .

When I start Photo Essentials, which opens as Photo Project Creator, I get nowhere. Step one: selecting what you want to create works fine. However, on the screen where photo selection should be made, I only get the Desktop and My Computer icons, and My computer won't expand.

After 2 days of frustration, I decided to install ONLY Photo Essentials 4 on my wife's PC to see what happened. It opened with a screen that said Photo Essentials 4 at the top, and something that would allow me to paint over the top of a picture. Doesn't even resemble what opens on my PC.

Both PC's are running Windows XP Media Ed. I've noticed apparently similar problem with Windows 7, but is this really just the norm? I tried the cure I found elsewhere in this forum, by shutting down certain processes, and deleting everything within Digital Studio, but it didn't change anything.

Any clues?

"I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements previously, but I wanted to check out this program in that Corel had a good program in Corel Draw some years back. Purchase it two weeks ago to do a slideshop project for my sons 25th Wedding Anniversary . I have had nothing but problems with the program to include bad tech support. The first time I installed the program, my digital photos would not display. Visit the web site – downloaded a fix because the program was consider unstable. Project creator will not display my photos. The program does not come with a fix files routine. You have un-install the whole program and re-install. I did this two times now. Project Creator never worked. All along I have email tech support, on their web site, and their reply is we are aware of the problem. This started back on 3 May -- how long do you have to wait for a fix? I finally submitted an email stating it's been more two weeks, what is your solution? This is their reply, "We have not heard from you concerning your request for support in the 72 hours since we sent you a response, consequently, we have changed the status of your question to SOLVED.” So what I’m hearing is, we are aware of the problem, don’t bother us. I should have stayed with Adobe."

@justbob

Please contact the Corel support in your country via free hotline number and ask for support. Tell them that Simone from the Maidenhead office asked this and if they need help they can contact me.

Was advised to download & run "dxwebsetup.exe", then reboot. No effect whatsoever. Before running, I checked on installed version # of Direct X. Did same after running. Both numbers were the same. As a side note, I got computer configured to automatically install updates from Microsoft, so it seems to me that any change would have already happened.

It's not a matter of DirectX. Log in into your account and give the member of the support team your PIN number and asked her/him to send an e-mail to Simone UK Support Maidenhead and I will contact you.

I received the CD upgrade of PSPP x3 and installed the program on Friday, May 21. The main program works reasonably well at about the same speed or slightly faster than X2. However, Project Creator is impossible to use, It's slow to load and once loaded, the mouse jumps around making it very difficult to click an icon. If you do get into the correct task, the templates may be garbled and it is impossible to find your images. I contacted Support and got an email message back saying to phone but that there might be a service charge and the office was closed today.

Judging by the number of complaints I've read here and elsewhere on the internet, I can't understand why Corel would release such a buggy program. Has anybody installed it and found that it works well? If so, what kind of system do you need. My system meets the required specs.

I spent quite a lot of time on the phone with Miguel of Corel Support. He initially suggested that the computer, being relatively old, might not have sufficient power. He thought that the problem might be with the mouse because his mouse seemed to work smoothly when he took over my computer. I tried another mouse and a Wacom Tablet but neither worked better.

However, I found the program worked decently on my laptop which is a few years newer.

If the problem is with the power of the computer, Corel should revise the minimum required system specs.

I spent forever on the phone with them also and they told me the same, my machine was too old/out of date and not able to handle this program. Ummmm HUH? If my machine can't handle it, then I don't want to buy one that can....

Hi to all

Please don't mix up different problems:

justbob began the thread with a very particular problem: if he wants to add pictures to the Media tray, he can't expand the list in My Computer and doesn't get shown other folders like "My Documents".

This problem has nothing to do with others here mentioned.

If a machine is older than 2 years, has got only 1.5 GB of RAM and maybe XP Home (which was sold until 2006), then the Project Creator works slowly, because it's a program for new machines. I know that XP Home users believe their old machines are still new, but there was a big increase in hardware in the last 2 years. You might have bought a machine in 2007, but it's still part of the "old" generation.

Now everything works fine! I finally found the time to call Support ( US - 877-662-6735), and explained problem. Only had two problems in getting it cured.
Temporary installation of program which allowed Support to take control of my computer wouldn't work, and a required re-boot took forever. Support Tech was very patient and helpful.

Solution involved deleting a couple items in the registry, which Tech led me through. I was prepared to be irritated about being charged $15 for the help, but there was no charge. Wish I had the Tech's name. Really appreciated him.

Hi justbob

what a good news :D

Could you write me your E-mail address or PIN in a private message and I could look into the database?

I'm curious to know which keys were responsible in your case.

I found one key here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...

and after deleting one of these keys, suddenly all folders came up.

I accidentally deleted the entire folder "NAMESPACE". Any ideas how to fix this?
