Problem exporting to DV camcorder

Post by Trikie »

New problem. I've exported several projects to DV camcorder but latest one stops 16 minutes into a 38 minute Videoclip.

I've done longer ones with no trouble and haven't, as far as I know, changed any settings.

Using VS9 with XP SP3, NTSC format.

Is ther a blip at the 16 minute mark? Check the project.
Have you tried several times and it always stops at the exact same spot?
Can you save the project to your hard disc?
If you drop this back on a new timeline can you then export it?
You have all things like screensaver/power modes etc turned off?
Internet etc all off?

Hi Trickie
Probably a silly question but as you are in the UK is there a reason why you are using the NTSC format?

Mitchell65- sorry, mixing my NTSC with my NTFS! Initially had a problem rendering in Fat 32 so changed to NTFS.

skier-hughes - exporting stopped at the same point 3 times - what sort of blip am I looking for? Will check your other suggestions.

Thanks

Yes, can save the project to the hard disk. Where do I get a new Timeline -create a new project or do something in the existing one?

Suggested processes all turned off

Yes, New Project is the easiest way to get an empty (new) timeline.

As it saves to hard disc it shouldn't be a problem with the project, let's see how it exports to tape from a new project.

Opening a new project and importing the problem one brings up all the clips - does this mean that I have to go through the editing process again or is there a way to put the edited version on the timeline?

You need to save the exisitng project to the hard drive as a movie file. Save it as a dv.avi file.
This is what I menat previously, not saving the project to the hard drive.
YOu then import this new video into a new project and see if you can export that to tape.

It saves as a video clip, playable only with Windowa Media Player and I can't find reference to the format. Am I correct selecting the Share option and if so how do I create a dv.avi file?

If wmp plays it, what doesn't play it?
If you import the movie file into VS are you saying it doesn't work at all?
When you go to share you'll get some optoions for what to save your file as.

I've saved the project as an .AVI video file and imported this into a new project. Then rendered this to a VS file, exported to Camcorder - and it stopped at exactly the same place as every time before.

The project is 28 minutes long and the sticking point comes at 15m 58s. The camcorder continues to record the final frame until I turn it off.

I know that with Fat32 there is a time limit - is there any similar limit contained within any of the VS9 settings?

As far as I know there isn't a time limit in VS9.
What do you mean by you rendered this to a vs file?

It certainly looks like you are hitting an arbitary limit, but you say you are using an NTFS file system on your hard drive.
Do you just have the one hdd?
If not, are they all NTFS.

Did you convert the fat32 to ntfs yourself?
How did you do it?

Perhaps try exporting with a small free app called windv
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/WebPages ... rammes.htm

Take the dv.avi file you have just saved and use windv to send this file to your cam.

Thanks, I'll try the app. as a workaround but would like to know what is causing the problem.

I created a video file -is rendered the wrong expression?

My PC was new 2 months ago and has one unpartioned HD that came as NTSC. On the previous PC I used an external 650GB HD for video work and initially had this problem until I converted it from Fat32 to NTSC. After that I could export a one hour project to the cancorder.

Before trying the app I've gone back for a closer look at the point in the timeline where exporting stops. It previewed OK across this point until I went to maximum magnification of the timeline.

Then at the problem point the indicator line started to go backwards and forwards between 5 frames. The preview carried on OK but the indicator continued to go backwards and forwards between 5 frames.

There is nothing different in the appearance of this part of the timeline.
