Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 install error
I have beeing running Corel Paint Shop Pro 11 for some time w/o issues. I decided to upgrade to Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 which I downloaded from Corel, it came with the Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 program.
I tried the install as Admin on my Win7 64 Ultimate system, but the install always fails. Everything looks OK until the installer shows the Processing Data value up to 5.02%. Then a dialog box appears (titled iNOSSO 2.0) that says: Access is denied. File C:/Users/a0841320/AppData/Local/NOS/nos03640//nos7B91.tmp
Here's what it says in the PSPP_X3_PF_iNOSSO_error.log:
Access is denied.
File: C:/Users/a0841320/AppData/Local/NOS/nos02748//nos1997.tmp
I've tried this mulitple times and have also tried dowloading the trial, with the same reslults.
The Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 program installed w/o issues, BTW.
Is this a known error? What should I try next?

Well I don't know about a known error, if it is you might be able to see it in Corel's Knowledge database.
I can make a suggestion though.
You may not have access to that folder for some reason. For example there's a common error on some computers with the CD-ROM drive not being accessible. Tried to fix it for a friend and the areas of the registry that needed to be fixed were off limits even in administrator mode. And none of the help info I found for this fix said anything about requiring that and it wasn't required on my system either. So a folder may have limited access for you for whatever reason.
You might try looking at your permissions for the folder that claims it doesn't allow access.

Re: Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 install error
You may try turning off your antivirus and antispyware programs and give it another go. Also if you have UAC on it may give you grief as well. On my Vista machine UAC would silently block things, usually a program that would try to access something in a folder that was did not originate from the same root folder. In Vista you have the option to turn UAC off, but in Win7 it just gives you the option to run it silently. I don't know if that's the same thing.
It's possible it's none of these things though.

Re: Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 install error
The UAC in Vista when turned off also turns off the ability of a program to run with admin access by default. If you don't specifically request it, you won't get it. So turning it off is not recommended if you have to install something that requires admin access to do so. I would imagine that silent mode is the same in Windows 7.

Re: Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 install error
I checked the file trees and they were marked with a symbol that indicated that some of the files were read only. I overrode it and the install completed

Makes you wonder why that happened but glad to see you got it going.

Re: Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 install error
Unlikely, it's probably more of a Windows thing. I've had to deal with this problem on 98se, 2000, XP, and Vista as well as Win 7. But it's probably far more closely related to something else entirely seeing as how the folders that require a change in permissions are so rarely consistent in my experience. Just a risk for systems that allow a change in ownership permissions on individual files and folders.

Re: Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 install error
Hmmmm, feeling kind of inspired to try reinstalling PSP on my netbook. I would love to grab, convert and edit my RAW files when I travel (I post them on my travel blog for my friends.) However, failed numerous times trying to install PSPX2....maybe I'll give X3 a shot!!

A netbook is a miniature laptop and you will find that the screen resolutions available limit the ability to install certain software.
