Pro X3 froze at the 60% when importing a video from a DVD.
After closing the program with taskmanager (it was not responding) I tried again but when the DVD import dialogue box came up it was showing the same 60% and Pro X3 hung again. The same thing happened after rebooting the computer so i uninstalled and the installed the entire proX3 but the same thing happened again.
Now ProX3 won't open at all. it displays a windows layer message but won't open.
Any ideas?

Re: Pro X3 Hang during video import from DVD
I assume this is a "home made" DVD and not a copy-protected commercial DVD...
I don't know why Video Studio has trouble with some DVDs, but there are a couple of programs/methods you can use to rip/convert* your DVD to MPEG-2, which hopefully you can then open and edit.
The first thing to try is to copy the DVD to your hard drive with Windows Explorer and import from there. If you can't copy the files to your hard drive, the DVD is damaged or defective. (DVD players & player software can usually ignore these "data" errors, but Windows will not.)
VOB2MPG is a FREE DVD "ripper" that creates an MPEG-2 file without re-encoding the video.
If you just need a short clip, you can rename the VOB files to MPG (after copying to your hard drive) and try opening the MPG files with Video Studio. Or, there are instructions on the VideoReDo website for joining the VOB files together. (Again, you can rename the VOB file to MPG.)
If you still can't open the MPG file, you can try re-encoding it with SUPER. In general, you'd like to avoid re-encoding because it can degrade video quality. But, sometimes you don't have a choice...
You can search the Net for a "DVD ripping" program that can rip to an audio/video file. There are plenty of these programs around, but most will re-encode the MPEG. Handbrake is a very poplular FREE DVD ripping program, but I believe it can only rip to MPEG-4. This is handy if you want to play the video on your iPod, but MPEG-4 can be difficult to edit. And, if you're making a DVD, that means another "lossy" conversion back to MPEG-2...
* In case you don't know, the VOB files on a DVDs are MPEG-2.

When you uninstalled VS x3 did you go through the motions of editing the registry as well or just use the uninstall progs in Control Panel?

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
No I didn't edit the registry when I uninstalled proX3. Maybe that's what I need to do to get it going again. But how do I do that?

To troubleshoot this issue, you may try to the following:
A. Manually VideoStudio Pro X3
1. Download and install the Microsoft Windows Clean Up utility. This will remove all registry keys associated with the VideoStudio Pro X3 install process:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301
2. Run the Windows Clean Up utility; Click Start >> Programs >> Windows Install Clean Up. Highlight VideoStudio Pro X3 from the list of products. Click Remove. Click Exit when done.
If an error occurs after clicking the remove button, just click Ok to ignore and exit the utility.
3. Delete the following folders/directories:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3\
On Windows XP:
• C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\application data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\13.0
On Windows Vista:
• C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\13.0
4. Go to Start >> Run and then type: regedit
6. Hit "OK" to launch Regedit window.
7. Go to "My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro"; delete the folder "13.0"
8. Go to "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro"; delete the folder "13.0"
9. Close the Regedit.
10. Clean up temporary files and Recycle Bin by launching the Disk Cleanup from Start menu >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Cleanup.
B. Redownload and save the installer to your desktop to prevent data corruption
C. Reinstall VideoStudio X3

Re: Pro X3 Hang during video import from DVD
I'm on the right track now but I can't see the "Corel VideoStudio Pro X3" referred to above in the list of programs in Windows Installer Clean Up. I have these
(All Users) Contents [1.6.2.36] then more Title Packs
and near the bottom of the list -
(All Users) VS Classic [1.6.2.36]
(All Users) VS Pro [1.6.2.36]
I'm reluctant to go any further until I know what to delete?
