I downloaded the trial version of PSP X3 but my system locks up when trying to run the program. It opens the program but then says "Not Responding". If I leave the system on for many hours it will finally allow me to edit a photo. I have an ASUS with 2.67 gHz Intel Core i7 running Windows 7. My prior versions of PSP (I tried PSP X, PSPXI, PSPP X2) didn't work on the 64bit Vista that came with the computer. When I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) build 7600 it still won't run the prior versions of PSP. I downloaded PSPP X3 trial and it hangs up as stated. WordPerfect X4 seems to work fine.
Have there been other problems noted with this system or am I dealing with something wrong with the computer itself? I don't want to upgrade if it doesn't work with the system. I just upgraded to X2 6 months ago and haven't been able to use it yet.
Thanks for any thoughts.
Bill

Are you installing into the programs folders or in the x86 program folders? PSP is an x86 program.

It is installed in the x86 directory.

Re: PSPP incompatible with ASUS 64 bit?
Not sure whats happening for you. I'm on an Asus/Intel (albeit i5 rather than i7)/64 bit Win7 setup and not seen the issues you have. It can be a little bit slow to startup PSPX3 first time around but generally once its up and running its fine. Sometimes it can take 30 seconds to initialise but not the hours that you're experiencing.
I know X3 is meant to be Windows 7 compatible (and saying that, I ran X2 on Windows 7 32 bit previously and that was pretty much fine too) so i'd probably suggest tackling Corel on this.

Re: PSPP incompatible with ASUS 64 bit?
This actually really doesn't matter a whole lot. The segregation of Program Files folders is purely to make it easier if you have a 64 and 32 bit installation of the same bit of software and the folder its in actually doesn't affect how the program runs or is otherwise treated by the OS. I have a couple of 32 bit programs I carried over from a 32 bit install that still reside in the Program Files folder and they run fine. You could override the installation of any 32 bit program you like to Program Files instead of Program Files(x86) and, provided you have no clash with a pre-existing 64 bit version, it'll run just the same.df wrote:Are you installing into the programs folders or in the x86 program folders? Re: PSPP incompatible with ASUS 64 bit?
Bill,
Are you logged in as Administrator?
Does the Program Files folder and subfolders (and Shortcut, if you are using one) have the correct Privileges to run programs for you?
Did you see any additional error information in the Event Viewer about the Module that caused the error?
Personally, I do not install any program in the Windows Programs Files Folder, providing I have the option to install it elsewhere.
For example, my main Corel Paint Shop X3 files are here:
C:\Corel-PSPPX3
You could always uninstall and reinstall in a new folder as a test.
