I'm trying to install PaintShop Pro X3, and had a trial version on which I let expire but now have the DVD.
The install from the DVD starts, then comes up with the error: "An existing version of Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 is already installed on your system. You need to uninstall the current version first to proceed."
The Add/Remove program was missing the PaintShop Pro X3 Uninstall or Repair options, although the entry was listed with "rarely used."
I tried the MSICleanup.exe utility from Corel, chose PaintShop Pro X3, did the "Zap Application/Module" and it seemed to do something, but it encountered an error. When I run it now, only my older PSPX2 is listed (which works fine, by the way).
I then tried Regedit and looked for stuff related to PaintShop Pro X3, searching on "Corel" and skipping the other stuff. I deleted the X3 information, but the CD installer still didn't get past the error.
I discovered a few MSI files in a c:\windows\Installer file that were related to X3 and deleted those.
It may have all started when I deleted part of the trial program. I had been having problems with Windows Media Player - it kept starting to install some "HD" something (can't remember) and I thought it was a virus and canceled the install. Afterwards, after I had found it in the registry it seemed related to Corel PSP X3. I deleted it.
So, what I'd like to know is how to install my Corel PSP X3 DVD onto this computer! Thanks.

Re: Can't install PSP X3: "An existing version..."
Thanks for your help - but still seem to be in the same situation!
I ran the utility above (on blind faith, like the "incentive" executable from Corel, without knowing what it was going to do!) and hoped it wouldn't remove PSP X2. It didn't, but I saw lots of things flying past in the DOS window that I couldn't read. It then brought up a dialog, looking for {bb8ae808-f003-4c7f-b56b-8c80eeaffe23} in a data cab file. I clicked Browse but that seemed to be like hitting Cancel; no browse dialogue came up.
The DOS window finally closed, and it seemed it had done its job. I looked in the registry to see if I could find that {bb8ae808-f003-4c7f-b56b-8c80eeaffe23} reference, and found this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KasperskyLab\protected\AVP8\profiles\Hips\settings\Application\Childs\0000\Childs\0004\Childs\0014]
"Id"=dword:000008cf
"ParentID"=dword:c000000c
"Flags"=hex:06,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
"Hash"=hex:c7,b4,1a,3b,05,94,38,96
"Name"="c:\\program files\\installshield installation information\\{bb8ae808-f003-4c7f-b56b-8c80eeaffe23}\\setup.exe"
"Info"="COREL"
...but couldn't identify the meaning other than it being related to my Kaspersky Anti virus software.
I ran the tool a second time; it went through without interruptions, but when I tried to install PSP X3 again, same problem: "An existing version of CorelPaint Shop Photo Pro X3 is already installed on your system. You need to uninstall the current version first to proceed."
This message comes up early in the installation, perhaps 3 or 4 seconds, whilst the background splash screen is showing a blue progress line on a dialog that is called "Initializing the Installation Wizard."
I hope this problem has a solution!
Thanks for any help,
Nik

Re: Can't install PSP X3: "An existing version..."
Thank you thank you! You have solved my problem and PSPX3 is now installed! I really had not thought I'd be able to resolve this, so I'm really happy.
In case it's of help, here are details of my experience following your directions:
Check to see if the following folders exist and if so delete them.
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3 [No]
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Corel\PaintShop Photo Pro\X3 [Yes, deleted them]

Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. [Deleted files minus a few that were in use]
Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Local Settings\Temp folder [Deleted them, minus a few that were in use]
Replace Stephen with your Microsoft Windows User name
C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{DA4BF4BE-3CDC-43B5-BBDA-DDDA73103111} [that entry not there]
In the Windows Registry if the following files still exist please delete them.

During the installation, a little after entering the serial number, I got an error message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" with a browse to "C:\documents and settings\nik\local settings\...\cds\runtime..." I forget the exact path, but I browsed to the CD and tried to continue the installation. It failed. I started it again, and this time anticipated the error and copied the CDS folder from the CD to the local settings\Corel\corel paintshop pro X3... folder, and the installation completed!
Big whew, and very thankful for the time you've taken to help me.
Take care!

Re: Can't install PSP X3: "An existing version..."
My problem is very similar. have the PSPPx3 disk and was using it to install the program when I had a system error and was forced to restart my comp mid installation. I can no longer install because it keeps repeatedly asking me to remove what isn't there. I've manually removed everything on the comp associated with the Corel and followed the above regedit removal to delete what I could find. yet it still says it. It wont install or uninstall or anything.

Re: Can't install PSP X3: "An existing version..."
Try creating a new user account on your computer, then install PSP to that account. If it installs you'll be able to use it on your regular account and delete the new account if you want too.
When installing PSP X3 onto Vista I had to turn off EVERYTHING that was security related. Turn off UAC, firewall (Windows Firewall turns itself on occasionally with Windows updates and can conflict with third party firewalls), antivirus, antispyware, etc... Once installed you do turn it all back on, just the install needs this step. Since you have the disk you can disconnect the internet as well (turn off your router, wifi, disconnect the ethernet cable, whatever method that works) if you're worried about viruses and the like.

Re: Can't install PSP X3: "An existing version..."
Ward, if you go to add/remove programs (or whatever it's called, programs and features?) in the control panel is PSP listed there? If the uninstaller is there but doesn't work properly or at all you may try Revo Uninstaller http://majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html. It uses the Windows uninstaller, then cleans up the left overs after that. It also creates a restore point automatically. I use it exclusively now for all my uninstalls. If you uninstall using the Windows uninstaller first though it won't know where to look for leftovers. There are other Freeware (legally free) uninstallers at the MajorGeeks website but Revo is the only one I've tried. You may also find some help at the Support Forum (link at top of page) for registry cleaners and other things that shouldn't be tampered with without guidance.
