VideoStudio X2 Slow To Render in MPEG

Post by Bez34 »

Up until recently I had been able to capture a VHS movie using the ADVC-110, edit the avi files and put in transitions, save to a vsp file. Next I would go to Share> Create Video File> Custom. Since this an old movie of only fair quality I would select a bitrate of 6000. I was previously able to render 3 different movies of approx. 70 minutes in lenghth to mpeg-2 in 1 1/2 hours each. Now it suddenly takes 6 to 8 hours per movie. The cpu will go like gangbusters and render the first 50% of the movie in just 20 minutes, and then slow down and take hours for the last 50%. I have Spy Sweeper and other running progs. and apps. shut off, screen saver disabled, internet connection off and D-Link not in use. I am using my "D" drive for all my files, which has nearly 1 TB, and I have plenty of available memory. Any ideas on what causes it to slow down, and what I might try? T.I.A.

I'm having the same problem with very long rendering times. Using XP, lots of memory but a 2 minute video takes 20 minutes to render... something is not right.

Hi

There are many reasons why the render times are slow.
The files being rendered are different from the originals. So if you are rendering WMV to Mpeg2 then it may take a long time
If Mpeg 2 to Mpeg2 then it will be much quicker, a little slower if you change the video properties, say by reducing the Data Rate (Bit Rate)

There are many types of video files, highly compressed, some a little non standard, not surprising that some software struggles.

The timelines content and amount of editing, applying filters can drastically increase times.
Auto Music has caused some problems for me, I convert to wav which does help.

2 minutes taking 20 and you are correct, “something is not right”, but unless we know what you are using and what you are rendering to then I could guess………. it’s a highly compressed video from maybe an i-phone.
I would guess its not a standard DV-Avi? to Mpeg2 or is it?
