Saving frames as images- increase output size?

Post by wbduvall »

I want to know how I can increase the size of the images if I save an individual frame as an image.

When I stop my video and do a "save frame as image" the image I get is a very small bmp file that will not really print that well beyond an 8 x 10 inch size. I want to use this feature to create some stellar abstract artworks, but I want to be able to print them bigger in pristine quality, say 20 x 30 inches Help!

Use a screen capture program.

I use Ifranview

http://www.irfanview.com/

Excellent all round graphics editor.

This is assuming you are using Video Studio on your computer with a displayed image.

Probably need more info from you as to where this image is and how you are capturing it.

When I found Video Studio, it was the most I had ever researched software before buying it, because I only needed one very specific features:

1. The capacity to make videos semi-transparent and overlap them to create pure abstractions of images

But now that I've created some of the wildest and most amazing abstracts with it, it turns out I need a very specific second feature:

2. The capacity to print them out as Starbucks sized murals

Perhaps I will have to continue my quest or get rich quickly and have software custom designed?

I'll check out that link. Thanks!

On second thought, I think ask Corel to custom design the software and see if they'd be interested in being a corporate sponsor. Kind of like what skateboarders get but with an artist!

Thanks for all the replies!

Good Luck, as they already have software for the "pros" for printing large posters and the like.. Corel Designer Technical Suite X4 or Corel DecoStudio

What you must realise is file sizes, dpi, ppi and resolutions
Grab hold of your trusty digital camera, mobile phone or DSLR and you will find that it takes pictures in a certain number of "Mega pixels" - the larger the number of mega pixels then the larger you can print your pictures.
The larger the number of mega pixels the larger is the size of the image file on your computer.

A video is a collection of images - using the PAL television system there are 25 pictures for every second.
Therefore 1 minutes worth of video = 25 x 60 = 1,500 pictures
1 hours worth would be 1,500 x 60 = 90,000 pictures.

So.... if these pictures were up to DSLR standard or lets say they were all the equivalent of a modest 3 mega pixel digital camera then imagine how huge that video would be!

Simply put you cannot expect to extract an image from a video and then print it to a starbuck sized mural.
Perhaps a standard 6" x 4" might be more within your grasp.
