Post by Ken Veal »

I have XP home and VS 11+.I want to fill up a DVD with edited images that are in 3 folders in my pics and have a transition inbettween each one to show as a slide show.In the past I am sure some pics have not been loaded, so is safe to load a complete folder in one go and what is the best way to do this.It will be the first time I have made a DVD without video.............Ken

The quickest and easiest method is to use the Movie Wizard. Just add your photos to the timeline, select a theme, change the title, background music and your done. You still have the option of further editing in VS's editor. Once all editing is done, create a video file, then proceed on in the same manner to burn to a DVD, as you do using video files. Nothing magically different using photos..;)

Used the movie wizard for the first time.Clicked insert image and browsed to the folder, selected all 633 pics and opened them.A mesaage showed saying
that too many have been selected(364MB) and some may not be opened. How many is not too many.Cant find a way of checking if all were opened or not, also they are not in sequence as in the folder, they were all titled in their different subject matter.
How do I get these into the editor, went to VS 11+, clicked on tools then movie manager and the images had gone in it, so how do I switch to and fro between thre editor and movie wizard keeping the content.

Probably some confounded Computer number like 255 or 128 ??

What format are the images? How big is the total file size?

What do you want to load 600+ images into Video Studio for?

Gonna be one long boring slide show ;-)

If it is just to backup the images then just use a DATA copy using Nero or something similar?

re format of pics -see post title
I want them in VS in order to author a DVD of them
3 folders of pics to load .633 pics 364 MB, 292 pics 374 MB and 435 pics 340 MB.1360 pics 1078 MB in total.
I want the pics all in one place, there are all group titled and dated.
They will have background music that can be muted on the DVD set top player and other music played (on the hi fi ) so the pics will be on the TV
with a choice of music.
Every one I know will be able to see them in this format( but I will be also transferring them to a media box that will show them via a usb connection onto the TV, which can be added to unlike the DVD)
Some people would take the view that memories with friends and relations from nunerous parts of the world in different circumstances ie scenes ,holidays, weddings and social events etc may not be boring, every one to their own.

Yes, I find that family and friends enjoy seeing my slideshows. But ... and it seems there is always a 'but' ... I have also found that anything that goes much over 20 to 30 minutes max tends to lose their interest.

Now let's see: 633 slides in one show, with each slide showing for, say, 7 secs including transition time... that would come to nearly and hour and a quarter... On those calculations, even your 292 picture show would exceed my admittedly self-imposed upper limit by 4 minutes...

I know what you are saying Ken, but rather like a diital picture frame that runs in the background my home theatre doors will not be locked and no one will be expected to be glued to the whole show all the time.It wont be the only thing going on , people can look at it or not or whatever. From my point of view the reason for it is to have the pics in one place.People will be allowed to talk etc during the show and may become engaged when they see themselves, or not look at all, cant be any less interesting to listening to ones fav music.

This is why I always rename my JPG's that are being inserted into a project into the order I want them.
I number them with a 4 digit system
0001.jpg
0002.jpg
0003.jpg
etc.

There are some FREE programs that will take care of that for you

The Rename
THE Rename is a program designed to help you to rename files and folders en masse with a number of possibilities and options.
This is a freeware program. You can use it in any situation (professional and personal use)
http://www.softempire.com/the-rename.html

Lupas Rename
Lupas Rename is a FREEWARE program developed to rename a few or a massive number of files with a lot of features
It works on Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT, Win2K and WinXP.
It is a simple .EXE file and doesn't need any other external libraries.
http://www.azheavymetal.com/~lupasrename/news.php

Bulk Rename
This one is compatible with Vista. Bulk Rename Utility is a utility which allows you to easily rename files and directories, based upon extremely flexible criteria. Add date-stamps, replace numbers, insert strings, convert case, add auto-numbers, process folders and sub folders....plus loads more!

Looks like a little gremlin crept into Steves post some how - if you remove the funny little ~ symbol from the middle of the link you will find that it works OK.

Or just use this link :-
