Hey, Eric. Are you actually only entering 6? Or are you trying different values?
This is a fact of the text tool that I hate, they no longer leave focus on the element that you've selected. Once they update the text focus is reapplied to the text. So if I enter say 5 in the kerning box, the second the text updates the text regains focus, so when I press 6 to make the kerning 56 or if I hit backspace and enter 6, what happens is the text is focused on so any other key presses automatically erase the selected text and replaces it with the key press. So you have to reselect the kerning box each time you change the value and the text updates.
It's terrible and I wish it didn't work this way but it does. It's one of those things, add a new feature or change one and you risk making mistakes that you never would have considered originally.
