Thanks for your comments (Ron and Ken). The InCd (custom installation of Nero) and the Roxio (disabling the similar module) issues are already crystal clear. I am going to buy Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD or at least to upgrade to that. That is capable to burn even AVCHD hybrid discs which is important since I don't yet have a Blu-Ray burner too.

„Normally, people have exactly the opposite problem.”
„It is odd that yours is doing the opposite as most others.”

I am exhausted due to my VSX3 burning problem but it really made me smile. :)

My MF7SE can be launched this way: Start/Programs/Corel VideoStudio Pro X3/Corel DVD MovieFactory 7 SE. When I downloaded it as a bonus right after the installation of VSX3 it was integrated automatically under VSX3. There was no other choice for me (installation path). I just had to push the download then the update button. So I can’t check the burner information with MF7SE (there is no such feature in it) but I did it with a smart utility. Actually it can burn all the common disc formats just like Ron’s HP drive except BD of course. The only difference is maybe the ATA vs. S-ATA connection.

I have to wait for a few days. The retailer I bought my new computer from promised me to replace my brand new Samsung SH-S223C RW drive for another type. There are two alternatives I can’t decide on: ASUS DRW-24D3ST and Sony AD-7263S (the last one is with LightFlash feature that I will actually never use…). Any suggestions on this issue are welcome.

I don’t believe in miracles so with the new burner my original problem won’t be solved. I just want to get rid of the Samsung SH-S223C because on its box they listed the attractive write/read speed values with big capital letters for all the common disc formats but after studying the User Manual (provided on the attached CD as usual) I noticed at the bottom of the page that „Do not support DVD-R for Authoring” (one of the notes).

I would like to emphasise that I realized it before having DVD burning problems with VSX3 but after purchasing the drive and looking into the Manual since the manufacturer forgot to print this important fact onto the box.

You could ask why I wanted VSX3 to author –R discs then. The answer is another strange thing again, just beacuse Nero 9 was able to do it despite the fact written in the drive’s Manual. Now it is not really important since in my case both MF7SE and DVD Factory Pro 2010 are unable to burn even +R discs, only +/-RWs (max write speed is only 4x, who knows it could be an important fact). Regarding to the firmware, I had trials with the factory loaded SB03 firstly then I successfully updated it with Samsung’s official ODD Firmware LiveUpdate to the latest SB05.

I will come back here after the drive replacement.

The correct ASUS product number is DRW-24B3ST.

So I waited for a few days and last Friday I got my new DVD burner. Actually my brand new Samsung SH-S223C was replaced for a brand new Sony AD-7263S. It helped a lot, there are still miracles…

Now I am able to burn DVD DD 5.1 with both MF7SE and DVD Factory Pro 2010. However if I want to create an AVCHD hybrid disc with DD 5.1 audio under DVD Factory Pro 2010 then the result is BSoD almost at the end of the burning process. MF7SE can handle this type of burning but only with DD 2.0 audio. This is another dissapointment from Corel. I am sure they know that DVD Factory Pro 2010 is a faulty product (why the hell is there the DD 5.1 choice for AVCHD is included then) and that is the reason for giving the bonus update MF7SE for free.

After a few days of suffering with –R discs I could finally start to concentrate on the editing part. Here came the next letdown. I realized that without Proxy files I can’t edit my videos in a normal way. If I put at least one single piece of any type of transitions into my project then the preview video becomes slow and jerky. Come on, I’ve just upgraded my computer just to forget about the proxies. I hated to use my old low performance computer because I had to create those proxy files in VSX2 and now I am in he same situation with VSX3. I can already hear the good advices, yes, the preview is just the preview, only the end result what matters. No Ladies and Gentlemen! We live in the 21st century. If I buy something for what the minimum and the recommended system requirements are stated clearly and I am above them then it should be working even without the proxy files! No more excuses! Only one piece of transition can cause this problem not to mention if I used more.

I tried out Nero Multimedia Suite 10 and I was surprised how great development can be experienced comparing to the previous version of Nero Vision. The latest Nero Vision Xtra can do everything that I need (cutting out the unnecessary parts, fade in/out, adding background music with volume adjustment, transitions, effects and titles, lots of stylish templates). It works without bugs, like a robot. It does what it promises in the feature list. No excuses, no explamations, no workarounds, no blablabla. This is a simple but robust software. A typical german product you can rely on. The design and the outlook is much modest but I can burn all type of discs with DD 5.1 even AVCHD hybrid. I can also have outputs like AVCHD or BluRay compatible HD files (with the possibility of lots of custom settings) to play back on my Media (player) Box.

Nero Vision Xtra has no Paint Creator or a similar feature but I never used it in VSX. Nevertheless the packgage also inludes Nero Back It Up and Nero Burning ROM. VSX is much nicer and colorful but who cares about it.

There is another big difference. Nero Vision Xtra’s CPU usage is between 65-94% during the rendering phase (DVD PAL DD 5.1) while VSX works at only 45-50% at least on my computer. So Nero doesn’t really spare on the CPU but the encoding is fast. VSX3 doesn’t overload (or I could say doesn’t utilize) the CPUs and works slowly and I suppose that the Corel developers are unable to come up with a faster encoder only at the price of much more bugs or rendering faults (just have a look at this web forum, it's really sad).

On one hand I am really fed up with VSX3 on the other hand the latest Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Paltinum was just released this week. Fortunately Corel has that 30 day money back guarantee, I think this is also not by chance at least they know their weak points.

Where is Movie Factory?

Post by bigbob »

Hi, I also am having trouble burning from DVD Factory with Pro X3.
I am using 16X discs and they burn okay but my DVD player won't recognise them.
If I use a 4X +RW disc everything works fine..
So, I want to slow down the burn speed as I think this will solve it (hopefully).
And I see from the various threads that this is not possible on ProX3.
Now I read that Movie Factory may be the answer but I can't see how to open it.
I can't see a "get more" tab which is mentioned above.
I remember when I first installed Pro X3 that the first few times I played around with it gave me an option - DVD Factory or Movie Factory but it doesn't do that anymore and, as I say, I can't see it anywhere.
This is a fairly new purchase and is supposed to come with Movie Factory. I checked the disc but can't see it to re-install it.
I can't see it on the Start menu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have 4 copies of family video to burn for Christmas presents and it's the 17th December ! Eeek!

EDIT to add :-

I am having trouble playing the burned DVD on a normal DVD player connected to a telly, not a PC based DVD drive.
I am not having trouble burning the DVDs with DVD Factory.
I installed ProX3 on my work pc because it has firewire which appears to be the best way of uploading the footage from my Sony camcorder.
I then transferred the raw footage to a FreeAgent and brought it home to edit on my laptop on which I installed ProX3 again.
Perhaps it was with the copy on the work pc that I saw the option for movie factory; or, perhaps because the laptop copy is the 2nd copy it didn't install Movie Factory (is there a limit to the no. of pcs on which one can successfully install it?); perhaps when I installed the 2nd copy I was given the choice and opted for DVD Factory? (I don't remember).
It seems my options are:
1. Reinstall ProX3 on my laptop and see if i can get Movie Factory; or
2. Take my FreeAgent back to work and see if I can access Movie Factory on my work pc and burn the DVDs there. Problem is I don't really have time at work.
Any other suggestions gratefully received.
This, of course, assumes that I have understood this thread and Movie Factory will allow me to slow the burn speed down to 4x, which is the main issue.
Thank you.

Hi there,

I am having the same problem and reported this tp tech support. Finally they suggested me to call them, however I am in Europe and did not want to spend much money.
I have tried also another DVD burner with the same problem.
I am able to burn the same project with X2!!!!

So apparently something in X3 is cauysing this problem.

Found out how to burn a DVD via VS X3 Pro

I have the same story. I've been trying to burn a Blu Ray DVD via Video Studio X3 for months and I had the same problem time after time. with not success. Uninstalled the software and reinstalled it...that didn't work. Removed McAfee from my PC to clear up memory.. still no success. Tried to burn it 10 different ways using a hundre different setting... still no success. Finally I found a way to do it.

1). Create your project and save it.
2). Close all open VS products
3). Open VS X3 Pro
4). Open your project
5). Click on the tab at the top called "3 Share"
6). Click on "Create Disc"
7). Make sure you choose the right media, drive and so on via the options on the first and second screen.
8). Once you have made your choices click the "Burn" button at the bottom of the screen.

Using this method I found that it worked for me at least twice now. I plan on burning another DVD tonight. Hopefully it continues to work.

One other thing that I did not mention... You need to do this as well...

Once you close down all VS products from step 1 you need to also end the processes completely in the Task Manager window (CTL-ALT-DELETE will bring it up).

End the following (End Process Tree) if they are currently showing up under the "PROCESS" tab....

- Presentation FontCache.exe
- RtDevDetector.exe
- MetadataMgr.exe

Next make sure you close VS Pro.

These are two more steps that you'll need to do in between step # 1 and step #2.

(note: if burning more than one project then you may need to restart your compute) I'm doing that now since I could only burn 2 Blu Ray DVD's from the same project. It really is a problem that the software doesn't work but this worked for me and I hope it also works for the folks who are in need of one.)

Good luck,

---Mark
