WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
Ok, so WinDVD doesn't work correctly. The 'Tools' option is NON-functional. I checked on patches, seem to be several. Tried to download #1 but file name indicates it is patch #2. What gives. Tried to download service patch one (Propatch2_Nov.exe) but it says that WinDVD 2010 is NOT installed. HELL, I just purchased and installed the damn thing!
Again, how do I get a refund. Version 4 was great; this stuff sucks!

I realise that you are justifiably venting, but in point of fact there is no point in issuing ultimatums on this forum. We are a users' forum, with no link to Corel other than that, like you, we use their products. As far as we are aware, Corel employees rarely if ever visit the forum... Hopefully, though, some other user might be able to help you...

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
Skip - I think WinDVD 2010 will work fine for you. I just upgraded to WinDVD Pro 2010 from WinDVD 9 + Blu-ray, and encountered a few glitches which one can expect nowadays from these very capable applications. This is what I would suggest:
1) Uninstall WinDVD 2010 using the free Revo Uninstaller:
http://bit.ly/102cQi
set Revo to advanced mode and thoroughly extricate all the Corel files
2) Download and install the free registry cleaner CCleaner:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Run a registry scan with this nifty application and remove all invalid entries
3) Reboot
4) Install WinDVD 2010
5) Install SP-1 upgrade [WinDVD_2010_Patch2_Nov.exe (55.3 MB)]:
http://bit.ly/8YZitt
6) Install SP-2 upgrade [WinDVD_2010_Patch3_Jan.exe (40.4 MB)]:
http://bit.ly/8YZitt
7) Reboot and try using WinDVD 2010

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
It seems that the download version has the updates already applied. Corel should just have the silly program indicate 'patch isn't needed' don't you think?

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
Skip - you say that the patch doesn't even recognize that WinDVD 2010 is installed, but you use the singular noun, not the plural. Corel informs us that the 1st patch must be installed before a subsequent patch can be applied. It's not clear from your response that you proceeded methodically, and I'm wondering if your troubles are due to skipping the SP-1 upgrade (somewhat confusingly labeled patch 2)? If you have followed the required procedure and still cannot install, then I suggest calling Corel. They don't charge you for support related to installation problems. I have called Corel Tech Support once, waited only a 3-4 minutes for an agent, and within 5 minutes I had a definitive answer. He wasn't the most gracious fellow on the phone (perhaps reflecting the amount of abuse he was receiving from others), but he seemed to know his stuff.

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
Hello all,
First time poster. I have the Boxed WinDVD Pro 2010 Version: 10.0.5.163. I was having this same problem, after unpacking everthing the update installer would say the WinDVD was not detected and stop the update install at the final point before actually installing. I tried installing SP 1 and SP 3, both doing same thing, only update in program itself was for update to help make program better (guess sending reports automatically) and it was saying same thing. Uninstalled and installed couple times, even did what ''nepenthe'' suggested and used Revo to uninstall it and CCleaner on registry, still not detected. Boring story short, I noticed that volume control went all the way up to 50, indicating that SP 1 was at least installed. So decided to try SP 2, it worked first try, and then SP 3 installed as well. Now it's Version 10.0.5.298 and "Avatar" BD plays without the horrid digital static.

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
I can't get any of the patches to install. I have done the clean install as listed above. Every time I attempt, i get an error stating corel cannot detect any applicable versions of WinDVD on the system. I guess I have to try to call the help line. Any tips before I call?

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
Having just installed a Pioneer Blu-ray burner in my PC this evening, I purchased WinDVD Pro 2010. The program installed fine but it crashes as soon as I try to play a DVD or Blu-ray. As long as there are no discs in my drives (My system has a Blu-ray writer and DVD-RW) the application will run fine. I can click through the options and settings. But as soon as I insert either a DVD or Blu-ray it crashes. I opened a contact with Corel tonight and they suggested I installed the patches. Whenever I try to install any of the patches I get the error "The update program cannot detect an applicable WinDVD installed on your system". My WinDVD shows a version of 10.0.05.298.105731. Can anyone determine if this version requires the patches.
I've been using WinDVD for years and have always been very satisfied with it which is why I didn't hesitate to get the new WinDVD Pro 2010 for my Blu-ray equipped system.

Re: WinDVD 2010 Pro Patch Problem
Please dear friend(s) do no feel alarmed or offended
I am writing the facts to be understood to present my evidence.
I can't get any of the patches to install. If I did the clean install as listed above and the others - I can not re-install because it came with the computer. I am using a Windows 7 pro 64bit image disc - therefore I reinstall the best part.
Because the original disc is the factory disc - that is near 5 years old. That usually does fix the problem.
That amounts to re-install of over 200 Windows Update Therefore wait a long time for Windows Updates to appear
Then download and Install over 200 plus Updates.
Microsoft Windows will damage Corel WinDVD BD 2010 when used as the Image file perhaps.
It appears its the only software program I have that does not survive.
After several years I tried to play a Blu-ray disc I looked where it wrote this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\CorelWinDVD2010\WinDVD.exe
The contents of the folder looks to be - to the best of my knowledge - to be all there.
I get a warning - " The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more details."
Therefore can not play a Blu-ray Disc - did anyone solve the problem or know how to ?
