frame stepping with WinDVD Pro 2010

Post by nepenthe »

I am able to frame step using MediaPlayer Classic, but cannot enable this in WinDVD Pro 2010. The N key should frame step, but when I pause the video and tap the N key, nothing happens. What must I do to enable this feature?

Hi Nepenthe!

WinDVD Pro 2010 still has the same Capture utility. It will only work for standard DVD movies. After you have inserted a dvd movie, the program automatically plays the movie, then you can go to Tools>> Capture and the capture menu will appear from the bottom, then you can click on the red capture button to capture the current frame. You can access the default location of the captured still frames on:

C:\Users\*your user name*\AppData\Roaming\Corel\WinDVD\

Note that Appdata folder is hidden by default, to change and locate this, go to c:\Users\, then under Tools> Folder Options>> View tab>> enable "Show hidden files and folders" then click Apply.

But if you want to navigate frame by frame while capturing you need to change the Instant Replay Time and Skip Forward time to 1 sec. You can right-click anywhere on playback window, then click on Setup. And under the Playback Control tab, you can change the Bookmark/Capture directory to your preferred location. Under Control Timing Configuration, change both options to 1 sec and click on Apply then close the window.

Now, to navigate the currently playing movie, just press Ctrl+P on your keyboard if you want to go back 1 frame and press Ctrl+Q if you want to advance 1 frame. Press space bar or Enter key to pause the current frame.

Hope this helps! :)

Many thanks for the response. I wish Corel would fix the glitch with the N key - that would eliminate the need to capture a sequence.
