PAL Settings

Post by woolfie »

Can anyone advise me where i can read up on which settings to use when creating a video file. I have 4 options:-

PAL MPEG2 (1920x1080)
PAL MPEG2 (1440x1080)
PAL H.264 (1920x1080)
PAL H.264 (1440x1080)

My gut is telling me to try the top one first but I dont want to waste Blu Ray disks.

Any pointers please?

How long is a piece of string? No one can answer your question sensibly because you tell us nothing about what format video you are editing, where it came from (camcorder brand and model); and what you are trying to produce (Blu-Ray, DVD or something else). Without that information, anything we say here would be just a guess...

:-)

Yeah I can see how that information might have been useful!! I am using a Sony HDR SR11E Camcorder And I am trying to save the edited files to then open them with Corel Movie Factory 7SE which I will use to produce Blu Ray Disks.

Given that your camcorder films in AVCHD/H.264 at 1920 x 1080i, you could choose either option which uses that frame size. The mpeg-2 option would involve a conversion and potential loss in quality, but given the high quality of the original, this is unlikely to be detectable to the naked eye. The 1920 x 1080 option is what I would use in your circumstances, as AVCHD video is Blu-Ray compatible as well...
