Re: Change NTSC to PAL
Makes it all the more important to get it right then.
What for example what am i supposed to do with the beautiful hd 30fps footage that comes from my phone given that i live in a pal country. I could edit it as ntsc given that every dvd player in the country can play it. Or i can convert it to pal and, as you say, make it 'look pretty bad'
so there are my choices. Reinstall or make it look pretty bad. Then reinstall again to go back to pal.

Re: Change NTSC to PAL
Or if you have more than one computer, install one in PAL on one computer, and NTSC on the other...?

Re: Change NTSC to PAL
sure. But it's a very odd hoop to have to jump through.
The issue seems to be by design and it seems to me to be a bit of an anachronism.

Re: Change NTSC to PAL
I would certainly agree that the division of the world between essentially two competing TV systems (plus Brazil's PAL-M) is indeed an anachronism, but that is unlikely to change soon either...

Re: Change NTSC to PAL
Hi
You are in England and have installed the program to use Pal standards.
This creates templates within the program most of which use Pal.
This does not stop you editing NTSC video, you do not have to re-install the program.
The project properties although default to Pal can be changed to use NTSC settings.
Converting/rendering your video project can be achieved by creating your own NTSC templates using the Make Movie Templates Manager.
Our problems arise when we combine both Pal and NTSC formats to the same project, one using 25 fps and the other 29 fps.
Mobile phones are another matter using 30 fps, we could argue that they should have used 25fps
Variety is the spice of life..........

i think you would be hard pressed to actually blame anyone for this. the origins are in the late 19th century and the adoption of alternating current. it's a bit of an ask for them to have considered the scenario that we are talking about now.skier-hughes wrote: But not Corel's fault, blame the peole who thought of NTSC and PALAt least Corel give you the choice, and you can make that choice.
my point is that slavishly sticking to this is now anachronistic. with bluray the distinction is essentially meaningless. and we are starting to see US tv shows released in europe as NTSC for example season 1 of Archer. The R2 dvd is NTSC.
the idea of picking a country at install and sticking to it seems a bit nannyish. most apps have the option to decide during the project.
regardless that is my feedback.
I'm slowly getting my head around it.lata wrote:Hi

i can change the project to NTSC but then in the share tab the export options are still all PAL. which is weird. i presume then i can create a custom output. if you actually author a dvd it picks this up. looks like the dvd authoring is separate and it's just passed the project file.
meanwhile i notice all the profiles are actually installed:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5\Profiles
things like MPEG2_NTSC_BEST_4_3.ipf which seem like what i need. the question is what to do with them.....

Re: Change NTSC to PAL
Hi flagpole
Tell us which version of Video Studio you are using, it may have been mentioned, if so apologies.
Now can you tell us what type of video files you are working with.
right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
If you are working with NTSC DVD compliant files they will be Mpeg2 types using properties similar to :-
NTSC
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Rendering the project to NTSC.........
1 / The option Share Create Video File-Same as Project Settings
2 / There is a Make Movie Templates Manager that can be used to create your own templates, these will be available from Share Create Video File, adjacent to the custom option.
3 / If you modify the project properties to use DVD Mpeg2, when you Share Create Disc the properties shown in the burner module will reflect the project properties.
4 / Press F6 for Preferences-- If you tick "Show Messages when inserting First Video to timeline"
If you have a Compliant video file a pop up window will prompt you to set the project properties to match the video file.
Please note it only works for the first clip, so to test this out start a new project.
From the window choose "Details", the right hand panel shows the video files properties.
Then select Yes
5 / and do not alter any files you find in any these folders:-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5\Profiles
Doing so and you may find you have to re-install the program.
The profiles will be available via the Custom or Make Movie Templates Manager option.
Ok run through these options
To advise on exact settings we need to know the properties of the original video files,
Read my Quick Guide for Mpeg and Share (Burn to Disc) from the link below.

Re: Change NTSC to PAL
Well I have quickly scanned through this thread but it did not help me. Here is my situation -
1. I Installed VS Pro X6 in PAL mode during installation.
2. Video clip that came from Galaxy S4 is at FullHD 30 fps.
3. I edited and want to export to HD (1280 x 720 30 fps) and here is what it happens -
a. "Same As First Video Clip" exports in FullHD so my requirement not met
b. "Same as Project Setting" tries to save in 720 x 480 29.97 fps (after I changed to NTSC in Settings->Project Settings)
c. Create Video File -> Custom -> mp4 -> Options doesn't have higher resolution than 720 x 576
d. Create Video File -> MPEG-4 -> MPEG-4 AVC (1280 x 720) forces to 25 fps
The think if I had installed VideoStudio X6 to use NTSC then maybe #d option would have 30 fps as default
My suggestion : Why don't Corel scraps off PAL/NTSC completely but instead give users option to select fps?? Because many people wouldn't share for any kind of TV but for computers and mobile phones and these devices are neither PAL nor NTSC.

Thanks a lot lata. I found it. I was only checking H264 BASELINE.
