When you installed VS, during the installation process you are asked which country you will be using it in. You should have chosen UK at that time. You will need to uninstall and reinstall...

I have been having some installation problems and have been intouch with the corel helpline but not got very far. I have tried to uninstall then reinstall and when i have done this and run VS it just comes up with the splash screen asking which prog i want to run - ie Videostudeo DVD Movie Factory etc etc. I wonder if its because i had the trial version on my pc initially?

Any idea how i can competely delete VS and start again?

Cheers

Hi Andy

The splash screen comes up by default, allowing you to choose a program.
To the lower left is an option to ‘do not show’ or something like that……….

There is also an option to select the default aspect ratio as 16:9

If required you can activate the splash screen again from the ‘Preferences’ option—Show Start-up Screen’

You say you have re-installed, has this cured the NTSC—Pal problem?????????

Can you please fill in your PC details within your profile, which will show to the rught of your posts.…thanks

Hi Trevor,

Unfortunately this hasnt solved the problem. When I reinstalled and ran VS I get the splash screen which gives me the choice of which Corel program i want to run but nothing else. I cant remember at what stage it asks which country I am in etc. Also does anyone know if there is supposed to be a "Do It" tab? I have a "get it" tab but not a "do it" one and i am sure i read or heard somewhere there should be that option.

Thanks again for everyone's help

Hi Andy
Can you confirm that the only problem you have is that the program has been installed using NTSC instead of PAL. :?:

This option is given to you during the installation, you can either choose a country or either Ntsc or Pal. It defaults to Ntsc, so you would have to change this option to Pal, if you miss this option then you will get ntsc.
………………………….
The program is installed and uses these for its default templates, but you have the choice of choosing the ‘Custom’ option where you can stipulate the render settings as Pal.
…………………………..
The other option from Share Create Video File -- Same as First Video—will render using your video files properties which should be Pal?
………………………....
Another option is using the Make Movie Manager to create your own template, this will show in the list adjacent to the Custom option.
………………………..
Your Project Properties should be edited to reflect your video files properties.
……………………….

X3 Sorry I don’t have X3 so cannot comment on the various ‘Tabs’

You need to choose both the country and the video type during installation.

It's because they are two different types of video and need tob e worked with independantly, and as the software is designed with consumers in mind, 99.9% will only work with their home based standard. :)

i take the point.

I would argue though that 1) all European gear has been able to play ntsc for years and these days all American equipment can play pal. 2) we have things like mobile phones knocking out great quality video in formats not necessarily region specific.

Because of these reasons the distinction is increasingly meaningless and it's easiest to just work in the format most appropriate for the source.

I have a feeling this difficulty is going to lead to irreconcilable difference between me and videostudio.

it's easiest to just work in the format most appropriate for the source.
But a problem inevitably arises if -- as many people do -- videos in both formats are mixed in the one project.

it certainly does. And at that point it's great to be able to make an intelligent decision on what the most appropriate format is.
