Trouble downloading/installing VideoStudio x3

Post by Sevendog »

I own VideoStudio x2, and purchased the downloadable upgrade version of x3. I am having trouble installing VideoStudio x3. I am able to successfully download the installation file, but when I run it I get the error message "iNOSSO(R) has stopped working | A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I have tried installing both the try-before-you-buy download, and using the link to the download which is in my receipt for the purchase. I realize I probably should have tried the try-before-you-buy installation before I bought, but well...I didn't. :?

I run Windows Vista, completely up-to-date. I have tried the download with both Firefox, and IE, which are also both up-to-date. Pop-up blockers, ad blockers, etc are disabled. I am not using any download managers. I have no other applications running when I attempt the install, and have temporarily uninstalled all anti-virus and malware protection. I have tried the x3 installation with x2 installed, and x2 uninstalled. The Vista account I'm installing to is an administrator account, and I have also tried using the right-click "run as administrator" on the installation .exe

I suspect the problem has something to do with Corel's download manager. I Googled "iNOSSO", and it is associated with "getplus", which I also discovered is the download manager plug-in that Corel uses. I believe getplus also manages the compression and "zipping" of the installation file.

When I try to download the installation file with Firefox, I get the usual "Would you like to save this file?" dialogue, and the installation file .exe downloads normally. --But then gets the above stated error message when executed.

When I click the exact same link in IE, interestingly, I'm directed to a new page with a short set of instructions on how to start the download, and there is a little orange, animated Corel icon that says "Download Now!". When I click this, I get a standard "Do you want to run or save this file?" dialogue box. Per the instructions, I select "run", and then again "run" on the subsequent box. A file called IEGetPlugin.exe is downloaded, but then an error message appears that says "IEGetPlugin[1].exe has stopped working | Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I Googled IEGetPlugin, and that is the getplus download manager plug-in that Corel uses. I have no idea why it won't run properly on my system.

Any help with this would be much appreciated. :) :)

Thanks,
Andrew

A stab in the dark here. As we don't have your system details we can't check to see if your PC matches the spec required to run VS x3?

Yeah, sorry, I suppose I should have included that: :) (It does meet min. spec requirements)

Dell XPS M1530
Intel Core2 Duo T9300 @ 2.50GHz
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB; 1900x1200x60hz
SigmaTel HD Sound
131GB Hard Drive Free Space
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, 32bit

I currently live in Hong Kong, but my computer, and Canon HF100 were purchased in the USA. So I'm NTSC, 60HZ.

I don't recall ever seeing the instruction to choose 'Run', but would have ignored it anyway, and chosen Save instead. Then I would run the Saved file. Have your tried that? And that way you would have a file which you could use again later or burn to a disc as back-up.

I would also clean out your TEMP file which is where the evidently corrupt installation manager file is probably still lurking.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried those, and still no luck. --But there is a happy ending.

I'm pretty sure it was a matter of the installer app that Corel uses (iNosso) not playing nice with something on my system, or maybe a registry issue.

It was probably time for me to do a clean re-install of Vista, anyway. So that's what I did, and I got X3 installed on the clean machine without a hitch. And now with the clean Vista install, maybe it will be a good opportunity to do a Windows 7 upgrade. :)

So far I really like X3. Thanks again for your help and attention to my issue.

A couple of months ago, this computer I am using also desperately needed a reinstall of Vista. But I opted instead to do a full install of Windows 7 instead. Much better. I also installed Win 7 over the top of an existing Vista installation, merely upgrading rather than wiping it, and the install went very much slower... though happily that computer is still performing well. I probably would not have done it if it had been displaying problems under Vista...

I have tried several links to download videostudio x3 and express. With each sources the Inosso program transfers (decompresses?) '.tmp' files to its 'NOS' directory. At random points in the process it attempts to produce a '.tmp' file with an extra '/' between the directory and the file name--that is, the same download will abort at different points when relaunched after the previous attempt's detritus has been cleaned out.

First response from Corel was a different install file. First attempt with it reached 98.12% before it crashed. Second attempt with same file--less than 10%.
Awaiting response to this development from Corel.

UPDATE: Tried flushing all of my temp files. iNOSSO 2.0 probably completed extraction. I say "probably", because at that point my whole system did a 'hard' reboot. Corel's latest suggestion:
"Kindly try creating a new Administrator user and install into there.

Please note that trial versions does not include free warranty and support. We offer self-help support on our knowledge base and newsgroups."

To Be Continued...(Maybe)...
