In a nutshell Corel made a big mistake by including DVD Factory in the latest release of VideoStudio.
When you purchase the full version of VideoStudio X3 you will also get DVD MovieFactory 7 SE which is a replacement for DVD Factory. DVD MovieFactory 7 SE is a tried and trusted product and a pleasure to use.

It has been the recommendation of this board;
1. To purchase a full/upgrade version
2. Uninstall the TBYB (trial) version before installing your full/upgrade version.

In the past, activated trial (TBYB) versions seem to have problems when it comes to installing updates and patches. When you attempt to install a full/upgrade version and you still have the trial version installed, VS will first want to uninstall the trial version, or at least ask if you want to repair the current version installed.

What comes with the download of VS Pro X3 is DVD Factory, not DVD MovieFactory 7SE. However, after installing VS, look in the DO MORE section of the Corel Guide, and you should find where you can download DVD Movie Factory 7SE.

As Ron says you need to download and install DVD MF SE7 from the Do More section of VS x3 but when you have installed it you will then need to create a compatible vodeo file in VS x3, shut down x3 then open DVD MF SE7 as a stand alone program and insert your video file to continue with the authoring. You cannot open DVD MF SE7 from within x3 (that's the only downside as I see it) I would have thought that Corel could have provided a patch to cover this really!

Once again...the X3 trial (and early versions of X3) comes with the aweful DVD Factory, which is a very limited authoring program. For more advanced features you will have to use MovieFactory 7SE. As you have found, it is now packaged with X3 and there is no need for a separate download.

I didn't realise this, but I presume it can't be opened from within X3 and still has to be used as a stand alone program after shutting down X3?

Hi Adler
I think you will find all the info you want on putting an intro clip in here:

I'm not sure how your latest version will work. However, it is my understanding there is a patch forthcoming that will allow MovieFactory to be used with VS still open, much the same way previous versions of VS has worked.

A patch would be grand - will await with eager anticipation! :P

One further point that does not seem to have been covered.
The "Get More" button on VideoStudio only becomes active 3 days after installation and so you may have to wait a few days before you get the free link to MovieFactory Pro 7 SE.
A service pack is in the pipeline, don't know the release date yet, but Corel are looking at the feasibility of integrating MovieFactory 7 SE into VSX3 so that it can be launched from that program rather than stand alone. It is not yet know if this is possible but it is being worked on.
