Scan through frame by frame. Does it move forward 2 frames and then have the 3rd frame as a duplicate of the 2nd frame? I have seen VS output do this (usually converting WMV files). Sometimes the duplicated frame occurs randomly. The effect of this visually is to create a subtle jerking to the video. I'm not sure what the problem is but it appears that there is a serious bug in the rendering software. Both 12 and X3 do it btw.

Successive versions of VS have not seemed to like .mov files very much, whether SD or high def. Our usual advice is to first convert the .mov to a format that VS has less difficulty with, such as HDV mpeg-2... using a freeware converter program such as SUPER from www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
