Artifacts and distortion after renderring in VSX3

Post by btomaz »

I realized the problem by encoding of my edited video clips using VS X3. My source video clips are taken from HD Video camera in form of .mts files but after editing and rendering output was far from satisfying.
The rendering finished normally but the output was not. After about second half of clip duration a large amount of artifacts and distortion becomes visible so the last part of the clip is unusable.
This is especially exposed by manual (Custom) settings of the bitrate. Sometimes it is necessary to lower the bitrate to pack the whole content onto DVD. But after this, the last third of the video is unusable due to distortion. No matter if there is a short clip or the longest one, the last part is always affected.
The same problem but with less but still present distortion arises by the factory presets for MPEG2 rendering/encoding.

I attached the sample clips to the Corel Support and received the reply in form of »After carefully reviewing this incident it is recommended that you call into our technical support center for further assistance«.

I've made the call to the provided number got the person on the other side telling me that »support always makes the same mistake advising to call them«. They are only here for installation issues. Perfect solution

In the mean time I spent hours on experimenting and found out the temporary solution. It is necessary to use Customized settings and set the bit rate exclusively to Constant (CBR). All other MPEG factory presets are unusable.
Of course this is the case by creating MPEG files for SD. For HD everything works fine.

Any ideas?

PS: I am pretty experienced in video editing and authoring. Till VSX3 i was using Ulead Media Studio Pro 8 and DVD MF 6 and still working with.
