Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
I am working an extensive project which will probably end up being about an hour of video. I tried to create a video file in numerous formats and they all take a while to render (time differs depending on what file type i am trying to export to) and when it finishes, it always DISAPPEARS from the file's target destination. I try to search for it on my computer but I cannot find anything besides "shortcuts" to it. As it renders, it takes up memory on my hardrive, but when it finishes it disappears and the memory on my hardrive is the same as it was before i began rendering/exporting the final video.
I have not tried to create a DVD yet, but when I opened up the DVD Factory it crashed for about 15 minutes, and then started working again. When I get some DVDs I will attempt to do this, probably by tomorrow.
Another thing worth mentioning is that I am using the Trial Version of Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 and I am not sure whether there is some sort of limitation on it as it is not the full product or whether the Trial Version is the same as the Full Version? I would like to buy the program but I am scared that the same results would happen.
I tried creating videos of about 1-3 minutes and it worked fine, but I think it has something to do with size because my project is closing in on 1 hour.
I need to finish this project within the next 5 days so help is URGENT.
If anyone can help me out or has any information, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!
Thanks,
D

Hi Donovan
Welcome to the forum.
A little strange.
When you say Short Cuts, do you mean thumbnails in the library.
If so, select a thumbnail in the library and play it, does it play.
If Yes, right click the thumbnail and select properties.
The file name should show the files location.
OK
You say you are using numerous video formats, some details may help.
If the project has a corrupt or faulty clip (Not easy to find) then rendering may abort sometimes giving the condition you state. Other times part files may be saved.
I found saving to DV created the shorter file, the end of which is the problem area.
Adding this to the overlay track would identify the end location the point where it failed. Check the project content at that point. Some effect, maybe a transition????????????
Otherwise, split the project into sections, rendering each in turn to identify the problem.
The hour video length should cause no problems.
PC Quotas
Now this is clutching at straws, but if they have been set, then could cause a file not to be saved to hard drive..
Quotas are normally disabled by default. (right click a drive and select properties)

And in case Trevor's post didn't already make it quite clear, no this is not a limitation of the trial version.

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hey,
By "Shortcuts" (aliases that lead nowhere) I mean when I search my entire computer to find out where the final video is or where it disappeared I find the file name as a "Shortcut" type file that leads me nowhere (it says something like Users/Appdata) but basically the video renders for however long and just erases itself and disappears I guess.
All the videos in my library seem to work fine, and although my project is a little choppy because of a lot of RAM being used, everything works fine until I want to finish rendering/exporting the final video.
Today I will try segmenting the project and try to see if there are any specific problems.
In terms of quotas, they are all disabled.
Thank you for your help, I need to figure this out soon so hopefully I'll figure it out. Today I will call Corel support.
Thanks!!

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hey,
I tried going into my project and taking out the video overlays that were playing over another video and pressed "Create a Video File". I chose to export it as an .mpg file and it worked..... BUT NOW, I have a new problem. The problem is is when I watch the exported video, the .mp3 music works but the video files' sounds over it DO NOT WORK. So basically I have videos that aren't playing the sound and all I hear is the background music. When there is no music the sound for the video files works at RANDOM times, so basically it shuts off randomly at random points. And when I try and play the file sometimes it doesn't even open! I do not know whether this is a problem with the program or with my RAM or with the player I'm trying to play it with (Windows Media Player).
I'm downloading VLC player to see if that makes any difference.
Keep you posted, thanks for all the help.

Hi Donovan
A corrupt file would certainly cause both these problems.
Unfortunately we know nothing about the type of files you are using nor their properties.
Except for mp3 audio, which has caused some problems for some, the recommendation is to convert them to Wav.
Direct X
Have you manually installed Direct X, this is known to cure some strange occurrences with X2.
I see no reason not to give it a go.

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hey,
My files have all been converted to .wmv in very high quality. They are all large and they all work. I've tried making shorter videos to test whether it would work and everything was fine, along with that now I'm having an array of difficulties.
I tried converting 35 minutes of my 1 hour movie into mpg but when it did each clips original sound would only work for a few seconds and then cut off. That meaning that EVERY SINGLE CLIP in the movie would have its audio cut off. Then I tried to convert it to a crappy FLV format, and everything worked. Since then I've basically finished the film and tried FLV again, but the SAME thing happened as with the mpg!! Only this time the conversion would crash after a while and the film wouldn't finish. The sound was turning on and off and only the background music worked smoothly for the part that I salvaged from the conversion/export.
I tried to burn a DVD using DVD Factory and it froze and then began burning and said that it failed after about a minute. I am afraid that I will not be able to make my film because of this program. I've put a lot of hard work and effort into it and its very important since I'm on a time constraint. :S
Anyways, I still haven't tried exporting it as a wmv or a bunch of others and I'm praying they will work!
Thank you for your time and help!
D
P.S. Where can I get Direct X and what is it? And I am using X3.

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hi Donovan
Direct X is installed on your pc by windows operating system and updated by Windows Update. It’s a piece of software a Diagnostic Tool that helps run programs making them compatible to your windows system. (well that’s the basics)
Manually installing the update has proved to cure some problems with X2, I do not have X3.
There is a post at the top of this forum giving us a link to the download.
It is a three part process, download, extract files, run to install these files by running theDXSETUP.exe
OK
Video Formats…….
WMV is a highly compressed video suitable for the internet, it is not compatible for creating a DVD, for which you need Mpeg2 files.
If I were to list the video formats in order of quality, Wmv would be towards the bottom of my list. So converting your work to WMV in order to create a DVD is not the way to go……….
If you have to work with WMV, have you updated your WMV Player to the latest version. Also install the WMV Encoder.
Quality…….
The quality of your completed videos is usually a reflection of the original video quality.
We know little about the original clips you are using.
Knowing what you intend to create a DVD or a video for the internet would be useful.
So we ask again, what is the source of your original video, a camcorder, from the tv, download from the web?????????
From the timeline…..Right click one of the original video files and select properties, What are they?

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
I have only just come upon this thread and it seems to me as if you have set yourself an impossible task. To try to complete a task of this size in 5 days without any real knowledge of the program you are using is not very realistic IMHO.Donovan wrote: I need to finish this project within the next 5 days so help is URGENT.
You might just make it but I see that Trevor has asked for the properties of the original clips a couple of times without success. This really is important as without this info it is very difficult for him to help you properly. Please just spend a minute or two by right clicking a clip in the timeline and copying the properties to here.

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hey guys,
Ok this is basically the history of my files. I shot them from my JVC Everio GZ-HD310BU camcorder. When I transferred them to my computer they were all .mts files that my computer couldn't read. So then I used AVS Video Converter to figure out what file type to convert to. I tried sampling basically all, and .wmv (more specifically, it was HD Video 720p: WMV 9, 7000 kbps; Audio WMA Pro, 384 kbps) seemed to be the best quality and work fine in X3 (it took 30 hours to convert them all). Then I did a few more tests and exporting into mpg worked fine for a 2-3 minute project.
Then when I got to a 35 minute project i tried exporting to mpg and it didn't work (sound was randomly on and off), but really bad quality FLV worked fine. Now that I've basically finished my project (still must add 4-5 minutes) I tried the FLV and it crashed each time and what I salvaged from it was the same; the audio was on and off (except for background noise).
When I right click on properties in the time line for my WMV files this is what it basically says:
File format: Windows Media Video
File size: anywhere from 5MB to 700MB
Duration: varied
Data rate: 7414 kbps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 29.970 frames/sec
Audio: Windows Media Audio 10 Professional
48.000 kHz, 16 bits, 5.1 Channels
Aspect ratio: 1.78L 1.00
Is editable: Yes
The only different file type I have is this one I took off of youtube.
File format: MPEG-4
File size: 27,713 KB
Duration: 518.500 seconds
Video type: H.264 Baseline Profile Video
Total frames: 15,555 frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits, 352 x 188
Frame rate: 30.000 frames/sec
Data rate: 316 Kbps
Audio Type: MPEG AAC Audio
Total samples: 22,864,896 Samples
Attributes: 44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Bit rate: 120 Kbps
As for the DVD, it crashed but after it crashed it somehow kept going, and finished by morning time. I played it and everything worked PERFECTLY up until about 27 minutes in. Then the video just cut off completely. I was using a -R blank DVD.
Anyways I downloaded Direct X and now I'm going to try the WMV encoder, so I'll keep you posted.
As for my deadline, I am making a film to get into film school and the only program that worked fully on my computer was Corel. The deadline is not concrete, they told me to get it to them by end of April and I was shooting for today. But if finishing means within the next couple weeks I guess it's fine as long as I figure it out.
Thank you again so much for your help and consideration,
D

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hi Donovan
Your camera produces 1920 x 1080 AVCHD, now that’s top quality High Definition.
No way should you be considering Wmv, its like taking a Rolls Royce stripping it down and creating a Mini (apologise to the Mini owners)
Video studio can read and edit AVCHD video files but copes best if you use the Smart Proxy option.
This creates small files making it easier to edit.
Check the options from File – Preferences-Smart Proxy that they are selected.
So we now know what you started with, I assume you want to create a standard DVD.
Workflow……….
At some point you need to re-code the AVCHD to Mpeg 2 files. Cos that’s what is used on a DVD.
You have two choices.
1 / Using Batch Convert to create the Mpeg 2 16:9 files then edit the new files.
You have to use the correct properties, the field order is probably ‘upper field first’
2 / Edit the AVCHD files, remember Smart Proxy, when the editing is complete Share Create Video File (you may need to use the custom option to set the properties correctly?) this will convert the project into a Mpeg2 file, using this completed file to burn a DVD.
And that’s as much conversions as you should need.
If Video Studio cannot read these AVCHD files then this problem has to be addressed.

Hi Donovan
When you said "When I transferred them to my computer they were all .mts files that my computer couldn't read."
How did you transfer them to the PC? Did you use the software supplied with your camera? When you say the PC couldn't read them, do you maen that you couldn't import them in their MTS form into VideoStudiox3? If that's the case then I would suggest the fies are corrupt as x3 certainly handles mts files on my sytem. I agree with Trevor, it is a backward step to convert your high definition files to WMV format.

Re: Final Videos DISAPPEAR after Rendering - HELP!!
Hey guys,
I managed to export my project after 3 attempts! The only format that worked was WMV 720p. Thanks for all your support! Anyways I was just going to ask for future reference, what would be the best format to convert my .mts files into, and what is the best format to work with in corel, mpeg2?
Thank you so much for your time, help, and consideration!!!
