VSP X3 install crashes every time at QuickTracks 5

I just purchased VideoStudio Pro X3 (disc version) now that teh VideoStudio line seems to have functionality closer to Media Studio Pro 8, which I've been using for years. Lo and behold, every time I try to install VSP X3 the installation crashes once it gets into the SmartSound QuickTracks 5 installation, and the installation then aborts.

This happened first with Windows XP 64-bit, so I decided to install Windows 7 in the event that it was a compatibility issue. Nope. Same thing. Once it reached the QuickTracks 5 install, the program aborts. But yet if I go into the QuickTracks installation directory on the CD, it installs without a problem. Because I have no way of knowing what else needs to be done on the installation, I'm not sure of what I can just install manually. Of course, I shouldn't have to, but that's not relevant at the moment. I also tried a different DVD drive, hoping that this was a disc reading problem, to no avail.

The system is an AMD Quad-core with NVidia 8800GTS, 4 GB RAM, gobs o' hard drive space, and Windows 7 64-bit (or Windows XP 64-bit, take your pick since both failed at the same location.) My account is the only one and administrative privileges are set. The problem occurred whether my anti-virus software was active or not.

Needless to say, I'm not happy at all with paying $100 for a product that won't even install. Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.

So after you manually install QuickTracks, VS installs ok? Does VS run ok? Have you tried using QuickTracks once it is installed?

No, it still bombed out at the same location even after manually installing QuickTracks then attempting the VS install again.

That said, VSP X3 appears to be working. It built the QuickTracks databases and I was able to preview various tracks; however, there's no way for me to know what else is supposed to have been done, if anything, because the install immediately aborted once it hit this error.

Was Quicktracks the last thing that needed to be installed? Was there some kind of post-processing that was missed? Is manually installing the various plug-in apps sufficient? Why could I install the plug-ins manually, but the installer bombed out completely at the same point in two completely different operating systems? What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

I'll know more about whether it's fully functional as I start to work on this new project. I've put in a call to Ulead support, so if they come up with anything I'll post it here.

I think you meant Corel, as Ulead has been dissolved for a couple of years now.

IIRC, Quicktracks is one of the latter components to be installed, however takes place during the normal installation of VS. If you had problems with it, you should first uninstall it from the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, before trying to reinstall it. Do you by chance also use SonicFire Pro ? On one of my several re-installs of VS X3 I did run into some problems with Quicktracks 5, however after a few uninstall/reinstalls managed to get it to work. On my desktop (running XP HP), I have several versions of VS installed, just for providing help here on the forums. When I came across this problem, I checked my earlier versions, and they did not have the problem, which by the way was VS X3 was only showing partial downloads to some of the SmartSound Quicktrack files.
