No Enable/Disable 5.1 Surround button
I am having trouble getting sound using Videostudio10 which is set to surround sound, my sound is stereo, but there is no "enable/disable 5.1 surround" button on the tool bar for me to try to resolve my problem with.

Re: No Enable/Disable 5.1 Surround button
Welcome to the forums Terry,
Unfortunately I'm away from home, which is where the PC is that I have VS10 installed. I need to refresh my memory with it. However I would ask if you have installed the most recent DirectX? If not you can find the link This Thread, which is a sticky at the top of this forum.

Hi
From Timeline View with the Audio tab selected.
There are 4 icons immediately below the lower digital clock.
1 / Smart Proxy Manager
2 / Batch Convert
3 / Overlay Track Manager
4 / Enable/disable 5.1 surround.
Do you see these icons
You can select 5.1 by editing the project properties and selecting Multi Channel Surround Sound as the Audio Channels.

Terry, which version of VS10 do you have? Dolby 5.1 was only available with the 10 plus.

Re: No Enable/Disable 5.1 Surround button
Thanks chaps,
On Ron's first point, I do have latest Direct X
On Trevor's point, thats the problem I don't have the enable / disable 5.1 button.
On Ron's second point, I don't know whether I have 10 plus, but my system does have the Surround Sound Mixer and the booklet discusses it.
I down loaded an VS X3 trial and the sound is OK.
I have also tried VS 10 on a different Vista machine and it doesn't work.

Re: No Enable/Disable 5.1 Surround button
Ron,
Thanks, i hadn't noticed the ? in the corner.
The version I have is VS 10.0.0100.0 This is there not the plus version. However, in Audio / Audio View the surround sound mixer functions are displayed. But I cannot disable them and go to plain stereo. Incidentally, I do get sound if a I play a clip but not when I play the project.

Re: No Enable/Disable 5.1 Surround button
So you are showing Surround Sound in the Mixer? Here's a couple of screenshots of VS10 plus, one with 5.1 disabled and the second with it enabled. If your version has the capability of 5.1 it should look the same.
Also if you're running VS 10 on a Vista machine you need to install the Vista Patch. You can download it from the Corel website, on This Page. You will
download a zip file, that contains a PDF file. In the PDF document, are links to download the patches.

Re: No Enable/Disable 5.1 Surround button
Ron,
Thank you very much,
The first patch caused VS10 to crash.
The second patch when applied set everything right.
There is still no 5:1 button but that doesn't matter as I would never use it.
You saved me having to upgrade to X3, which would not have been good value for me as I very rarely use the programme.
Best Regards from Carlisle in the UK
