How can I edit the Share as Video Files templates in VS Pro X2?
According to page 141 of the manual "To modify the settings of a movie template, click Edit in
the Make Movie Templates Manager dialog box." If I do this, all I get are two DVD templates. Shouldn't ALL the Share as templates appear here?
What I want to modify are the HDV 10801 50Hz templates to make them 1920 x 1080 - they are 1440 x 1080 at the moment. I'm using 1920 x 1080 AVCHD files from my camera and would like to save the edited movies as HD MPEGs, which I believe are m2t files.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Ray D

Hi Ray
The make Movie Manager is provided for you to create your own templates.
Once created they will be available from the Share Create Video File list towards the bottom.
The two templates you see are provided by VS by default and are for a standard DVD.
In some cases you can use the Add function, this allows you to browse the hard drive for a video file. It will create a template using the video files properties.
You can then edit the new template to change the frame sizes from 1440 to 1920
I have just tried and was able to Add a MTS file
But if that option does not allow for your type of file then you will have to create a template from New.
You will need to select Mpeg as the File Type, then the compression type as Mpeg-2.

Hi Ray
Just another thought.
1 / It is best to manually change the project properties to match your video files properties. You should then be able to Share Create Video File Same as Project Properties.
2 / And when you Share Create Video File the option Same as First Video Clip should also render using your video files properties.
3 / Although Make Movie Manager is very useful

Re: VS Pro X2 Editing Templates
One problem with your proposal is that HDV video is fixed at 1440 x 1080... But I am a little puzzled why you would want to change from AVCHD which is HD MPEG in format, though of course mpeg-4 as opposed to HDV's mpeg-2. And of course if it is already 1920 x 1080, you can then simply select Share > Create Video File > Same as First Clip.would like to save the edited movies as HD MPEGs, which I believe are m2t files

Re: VS Pro X2 Editing Templates
Thanks for the replies. I had no idea that you could create a profile by opening an existing video file - a very useful facility - but a shame it doesn't appear in the manual
I found your pages very useful Trevor.
'Same as First Video Clip' doesn't always appear - I think it's when I use title clips at the front from within VS X2. I quite often use the VS Wizard as a starter and then modify it to my own taste in the editor.
I was trying to use VS X2 to save into HD MPEG as as higher quality and bit rate backup file. I usually save out as 8MB/sec .mpg files for general use and DVD burning but thought the 25MB/sec HD MPEG files would be useful as archives.
Things would be a lot easier if I could find a way to alter manually and SAVE the project properties so that they became the default. I understand from a previous enquiry that this isn't possible.
As a matter of interest, where are the default project properties saved within the VS folder? Perhaps it's a file I could change in a text editor?
Thanks again for you help.

Re: VS Pro X2 Editing Templates
Hi Ray
From file Preferences - Show Messages when Inserting the First Video file…………..
This is the first compatible video file using the video editor, using the wizard may not work for this option.
Most library clips will not work as they have no audio and may also be WMV..........
Video Studio will give you a warning notice to match the project properties.
This works well with the older formats, SD Mpeg, Dv-Avi. etc
The video file has to be compatible, not all file formats work.
Unfortunately neither does HD files which is a shame.
---------------------------------------
Create your own project as a template. Save an empty VSP having the correct properties.
When you start a new project simply open the VSP template, File - Save As giving your project a new name. The template being available again.
------------------------------------------
Archive
First I don’t use HD but I see little point in increasing the Mpeg bit rate from the original to a higher level.
I doubt if you will see any improvement in quality, you will of course use more memory for your efforts.
I feel you would be best to render the finished project using the original video files properties.
