cannot start capture graph

Post by anzalone626 »

Im using Windows xp, Using Sony HI-8 1394 Firewire. Video studio recognizes it fine and I caN PLAY IT ON THE computer but as soon as I try to capture I get the error. I can capture with regular A/V cables but not through Firewire. Can it be driver issues? How do I correct it?

You might find some answers in this link.
Have you tried Windows Movie Maker which is already built into your XP operating system?

Just to distil some of those many posts, capturing analogue source material using either a Sony Digital 8 or a mini DV camcorder over Firewire is something that got broken with VS11 and Corel has not seen fit to fix it in subsequent versions. (I have a Sony DCR-TRV450 Digital 8 which can play analogue 8mm and Hi8 tapes. It worked fine up to and including VS10, but no longer works with VS11 onwards...)

The solution is in Steve's other comment: don't use VS to capture, only to edit. I personally use a small freeware program called WinDV, but you can use also Windows Movie Maker (set to capture in DV format). WinDV only captures DV (or can be used to send edited DV back to your camcorder). But once you capture, you then simply open the capture files for editing in VS...
