I'm doing a video for a grade school and I'm cutting out all that extra stuff on the pictures (scanned, of course) I've got from the parents. I'm doing a lot of cutting, pasting and resizing of the photos. After modifying a few pictures my system begins to slow down when I do a copy. I think it's moving things to the system swapfile, so my question is - how do I flush out all that old stuff in the clipboard? If i simply bring PhotoImpact 10 down and back up it runs fine, for a while.
Any help is much appreciated,
Crc
Clearing out clipboard

Each time you copy or cut to the Clipboard, the previous contents are replaced with the newer content in the Clipboard, meaning it doesn’t store continuous content. However, the MS Swap file and PI 10 Virtual Memory does.
If you cut or copy a 50 meg file to the Clipboard and keep it as stand-by, and use drag-drop instead of cut, or copy, you have a problem. In that case you may want to break-up your video into file segments, and work on one file at a time as needed.
Concerning PI 10, have you created a Virtual Memory file so that PI 10 can swap out its work load? In PI 10, Go to Preferences, General, System, under Define additional folders for Virtual Memory. Create another Virtual Memory Folder on a different drive, or anther partition if you have one. If you don’t have another Drive or partition, then on the Main Drive create a new Folder, by any name, and point to that location. This will expand your Virtual Memory, which is actually nothi8ng more than a Swap file..
When working on an Image you can also view the contents of the PI 10 Clipboard by going to Edit, Clipboard, Display, and if desired deleting the contents. Make sure you want to delete the content, as it may be holding a cut you still haven’t used!! If this dosen’t work then you can try the following:
You may have a Defragmented drive and\or swap file. Or, your swap file is not large enough.
To Check to see if MS is managing your Swap/Pagefile file, Open System in Control Panel.
1. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
2. On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
3. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
4. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum page file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. Increases typically do not require a restart.
To Defrag your drive, Go to My computer, right click on the Menu dialog select Manage, Under Computer Management Dialog Box, select, Disk Defragmenter, choose which Drive or partition to Defragment. Run the Defragmenter at least three time, I kid you not MS says it takes at least ten tries to fully defrag a drive. You have to have a Third party Defragmenting Program to defrag Directories, System Files, and the Swap File. I am not suggesting you buy one just giving you the facts.
If none of the above work then your CPU, Memory and\or your Video card may not be able to take the load.
To change display Properties, Right click on the Desktop, select Menu Item Properties, Display Properties, Settings, in the Dialog Box, decrease your display from High Quality (24bit) to Medium Quality (16bit).
Additionally, can you change a copy of the video to a lower Data Type, 256 colors, or lower resolution, before you work on the complete video?
If none of the above work then your doing the only thing you can for the time being, shutting down and reopening PI 10.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. You must've typed all night.
I have done most of the things you recommended but I think I will change my PI10 swap drive to another drive (it's C: right now and I've got three other 200GB drives).
I've got my XP Pro swap file at its largest size - 4096 and since I do a lot of video, Disk Cleanup and Defrag are run almost daily.
Thanks for the other pointers I will try them, but thanks especially for your valuable time,
Crc
