Error burning dvds
When I try to burn dvds from Videostudio pro X2 I get an error message “failed to burn data onto the disc”
534:-2147216291:0 This is a new computer with XP installed on it, I get the same error with VS10. I can burn discs successfully using Nero or Moviefactory 4. I have been using all these programs on my old machine with no problems. I follow the workflow as suggested, ie edit my video and save it as an mpeg file, close VS and open a new project, then “Share”, create disc, import mpeg file add chapter points then burn disc. I have only selected to burn one copy and are using –R Verbatim dvds single layer. If I select create disc image this is saved ok. If I use the VS10 image recorder or MF4 to burn from this iso file that works ok. I have tried some suggestions from other posts but this has not helped, i.e. I have downloaded the latest copy of DirectX and not got InCD installed. Part of my business is transferring video tapes to DVD, as I do several a day I don’t want to have to add extra steps to the process, I have changed my computer hoping to speed things up. I have the same Samsung dvd drive in both computers but the new one works off SATA instead of IDE could this cause the problem. Any help would be appreciated please.

If you do a search using "AVCHD" as a keyword, and in the author's box insert member name "etech6355", select VideoStudio for the forum, and Popular Products for the category, Search-Previous 6 months; you should get about 8 pages of results relating to this.
When searching I will generally choose to Display Results as Posts, and for the Return First-"All Available". This way in the results you can quickly skim through the posts to see if it is one that would apply to you..
**Etech6355 is our "resident expert" on these HD/BD, AVCHD h.264 stuff. He has posted a lot of information about this. I thought I read one post where you can not burn AVCHD to Standard DVD, it must be an actual HD DVD, or something to that effect..
Looks like you are not the first!!!

Hi
I would suspect the burner compatibility.
To rule this out move the old burner to the new pc, does that work ok??

Re: Error burning dvds
This sounds like exactly the same problem I reported very recently using VS X2 and Windows 7 64 bit.
Everything else burns DVDs properly except VideoStudio. Is your computer 64 bit? If so, that is a common thing between us.
Cheers,
Ray D

Could be a firmware issue.

Re: Error burning dvds
Yes Ray my machine is 64 bit. I have windows7 and XP on seperate hard discs in the machine so I can boot up on either system. VS 12 burns ok on windows7 64bit. I have gone back to using XP as several of my older programs dont work on Windows7 so I have given up with it. I will try a different burner as Trevor suggested.
Thanks
Michael

Re: Error burning dvds
I have tried two other dvd burners a Pioneer and another Samsung they are both IDE and not SATA, they work perfectly. Could it be that VS doesnt work with SATA dvd burners. Seems that the quickest way around my problem is to purchase a new IDE burner.

Hi Michael
I have a Liteon DL burner, (ATAPI iHAS120 6 ATA Device ) it is Sata and I do not have problems burning DVD’s.
I use a Sony DVD-RW discs for testing and either Ritek or Taiyo Yuden for the real thing.
Not had any problems at all. (bet that’s the kiss of death)

Re: Error burning dvds
I have solved my problem. My SATA dvd drive was plugged into the STAT 0 socket on my motherboard. I tried using the SATA 5 (next available one) and VS burns successfully. I have tried it back in the 0 socket and my fault returns. I don’t understand why my other programs work in the 0 socket but not VS. Now all my programs work perfectly connected to the 5 socket.

If you find you run out of SATA sockets (at some time in the future) then there are PCI to SATA cards available
that plug into an empty PCI slot and provide you with additional SATA sockets.
