Why is it That VideoStudio Pro X3 has FEWER CAPTURE FORMAT than Pro X2?
I have a Canon Elura 100 which uses MiniDV.
With Pro X3 I only get the following CAPTURE FORMATS: DV (AVI) & DVD (MPEG)
With Pro X2 I am able to choose from the following formats: DV, MPEG, VCD, SVCD & DVD

Re: Capture Format in VideoStudio Pro X3
I don't know why there are fewer, but can speculate that the VCD and SVCD are outdated formats. They are a real low quality form of MPEG.

Hi
I don’t have X3 but understand what you mean, Corel seem to be removing any manual options in setting the capture.
Saying that if you have a MiniDV type camera why would you want to capture to anything other than DV-Avi.
The footage on the tape is DV-Avi data and as such is transferred to the pc not re-coded.
What you have is what you get, no changes.
Selecting any other option (DVD-Mpeg etc) and the data/video is re-coded during capture.
With earlier versions you were able set the capture properties from the ‘options’ cogwheel, these options are now practically non-existent, although the Mpeg option does have an advanced button.
I have problems with using X2 and the X3 trial in capturing Dv-Avi as ‘Split by Scene’ (an additional frame at the end that belongs to the adjacent clip) I now use Win DV.

And it is DV(AVI) that you should be capturing with using your equipment. Please make sure that you use an IEEE1394 Firewire / iLink cable and NOT a USB cable.godonoughue wrote:Why is it That VideoStudio Pro X3 has FEWER CAPTURE FORMAT than Pro X2?

Re: Capture Format in VideoStudio Pro X3
Thank you all for your comments.
Capturing in AVI format takes about 3 times more space than with MPEG format. And MPEG format is OK for a small file used with Flash on a website.
Furthermore I don't understand why a FREE softare package like MICROSOFT MOVIE MAKER can offer the possibility to capture DV in MPEG format and COREL VIDEOSTUDIO PRO X3 which costs $99 doesn't offer it?
