Problem when editing HD video

Post by cinedan »

I'm trying to make a video that starts with a few still pictures, then has HD video. I used the mark-in and mark-out to use only about 6 minutes of the 45 minute video. I am using ripple editing for all parts of the time line I'm using. I have some still pictures in the overlay track. Everything seemed to be working fine when I ran the preview of my video so far. Later on, when I ran the preview again, the first 2 still pictures were fine and the last picture before the video stayed on during the video. The last picture was set for only 2 seconds. I could only hear the audio from the video while the last still picture stayed on. I tried deleting the video from my computer and re-uploading it from my camcorder. The video played fine until later when the same problem happened again. If I just click on clip, the video always plays fine. When the problem happens, there is no picture for the video on the time line, just a black square.

I bought the pro x3 upgrade for my old 11 version. How can I fix this?

Previewing your project in VS, will not always be smooth. VS must put all the edits, overlays, audio, ect., together on-the-fly. Even though you have a fairly powerful PC, you're also using HD video, which demands a lot of resources. When played in clip mode, it should be smooth, because it is just playing the clip, which is the original source clip on your PC. You might try rendering your project to see if the problem is in the final product.

If you notice in VS X3, they removed the High Quality Playback, which was used to render a temp file so you could get a more accurate preview of your project. While beta-testing VS X3, I asked Corel why this was removed, and was told that they improved the rendering engine, so it was no longer needed.

I experienced the same problem with HD and I can just say this has nothing to do with your PC. Since VSx3 has been released I tried the TBYB version. And I can just say neither Ver X2 nor Ver X3 can handle HD video files. There is no problem inserting the files, but as soon as you even start playing back your project it just crashes.

I started looking around for other product and downloaded two of Magix's video editing software trial versions. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! Same files same PC. Playback as smooth as it can be.

But I must say Video Studio is much easier to use. Hope Corel will really come with workable solutions with their latest release of VS. At this stage I am still not prepared to spend my money on the new version. So I start thinking instead of adapting to the new VS and learn how to do things in this new manner, why not just switch to other software and learn how to use them?

Many users on this forum edit HD files just fine. Maybe it has something to do with your system, but we wouldn't know what that may be since your system info is not filled in. Please click on User Control Panel at the top right of the forum to complete that information.

I did update my system profile now, but no I don't think it is my system, because I have not a single problem with Magix's software. It can't be clashes because I only installed Magix after I experienced problems with HD video files.

I've tried every suggestion mentioned in this forum concerning editing of High Definition files. This is a huge problem for me because I now have 28 GB of HD material (received from a client) to edit and render. My larger projects concern between 50 - 100 GB of videos and photos, edited to a 20 min promotional DVD. (That was previously done in Standard format, as Blu Ray becomes more popular I think we will all switch to HD for quality purposes) So you can guess that needs a lot of editing to be done. I just do not have the time to struggle with programs not working as it's propagated to do.
