X3 edit attribute expectations

Post by dogbrain »

Hi Folks,

I had edited a clip with color transformation changes and sharpening, and saved the VSP file. I subsequently started a new project and edited a second clip with similar changes but wanted to combine the two clips.

When I added the VSP original saved clip, the changes were no longer visible in the attribute or color transformation selections for the original file.

Should I have expected to see them :?:

I would think so. What happens if you just open the VSP? Are the changes there?

Hi
I am not sure I understand what you are actually doing.
Are you using images ? If Video what are the properties.

1 / A VSP is a Video Project, not a Video File.

2 / The first VSP has to be rendered to create a new video file. (Share Create Video File)
This new file can be added to the second VSP.

When you say “When I added the VSP original saved clip” did you save the clip as in 2 above ??

Hi Folks,

file 1 & 2 are both mpg videos independently captured as files.

File 1 was edited for color correction, sharpened and saved as a .VSP (but not rendered).

File 2 was edited for color correction and sharpened. I then used file/insert media file to timeline and added file 1.VSP, BUT the changes I made to file 1 did not show up.

Opening file1.VSP by itself as a new project does show the changes.

Should the behavior of saving video edits via a VSP be uniform, or what are the rules of thumb I can count on.

The original file is never touched hen you edit it or make changes to it. If the file you made changes to is not rendered then no changes ar applied

When you insert or merge a VSP file into another project, you no longer can make edits or changes to the attributes of the imported one. For example, if your file 1 VSP consists of multiple video clips with transitions etc, once you merge them into file 2 VSP, your file 1 would appear as a single clip and you can no longer change the trim of the clips or the transitions in file 1.

I was also looking for a way to merge projects and that's what I found. I wish there is a better way to combine multiple projects.

The OP is not trying to make any changes to the nested VSP. But he is not seeing any of the color corrections that he originally made to it before nesting it.

Then you should render the project to create a new video file using Share Create Video file.
Use this new video file in your second project rather than adding the 1.VSP
