Since Corel support doesnt wanna be helpful, i have turned here. As soon as i go to make into a movie file the program stops rendering and says i have an unspecified error and that i should send in a dump file. I don't know what that is and cant find it on my computer. What should i do?
Thank You

Re: Crashes During Rendering
As this sounds exactly the same as my problem, perhaps I can tag on to this post.
I get the unspecified error message, and the creation of dmp file at 0% when I try to share, create video file with any type of mpeg under the DVD option. A dump file is created and I am asked to contacted corel technical support for analysis. No problem creating avi files. The source files of the project are avi files captured from DV tape sony camcorder, with some jpeg pictures and some mp3 music tracks. The crash happens on more than one vsp project though.
I have application error in event log saying Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 13.0.0.0, faulting module mpgvenchp.dll, version 2.0.0.19, fault address 0x0002d69f.
I have updated to the latest version of direct x, and the version of VX3 is 1.6.0.272.
Project properties are
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
My working directory drive has more than 1GB free space
Spec of my machine is
Windows XP, sp2
Processor Description mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M 2800+, 2133MHz
Total Memory 2048MB
Total Hard Drive C 531GB
Very grateful for any suggestions

Re: Crashes During Rendering
Your source video files seem fine, however I did notice that you're running WinXP SP2. VS X3 system requirements call for Win XP with SP3. I'm not real sure that it will make much difference, but it might not hurt to update to SP3.
How long is your video? DV (avi) requires 13 gig per hour of video. Add to this the space required for working on the video, which as a general rule of thumb is double that of the source file. So say if you have 1 hr of DV video, you will need at least 26 gig of free space for VS to work with. I do notice that your Total Hard drive size is sufficient, however what raises the question is the more than 1 gig free space, for your working directory drive. Is your drive partitioned, where your working directory is on a separate partition? If so, how much free space do you have for it?
You might also try limiting any other processes while working with VS. Your PC is an older one (lvery similar to my desktop, which is a tad more powerful than yours), and I make sure that I shutdown, limit anything else my PC has to deal with. Video editing is very demanding on resources.

Re: Crashes During Rendering
1gb from 500gb is hardly enough for windows to work efficently, did you mean 1gb?

Re: Crashes During Rendering
My C drive has 200 GB free, but I have a separate d drive for data where the source files are, this has 1GB free from 500, so it could be the problem if some sort of temp processing goes on in the source files drive D not on the C drive where VSX is installed - sorry I don't know the mechanics.
I will upgrade to Sp3 but it looks as if vsx3 in general is pushing the limits of my machine - certainly I have had a few other crashes while VSX just catches up with itself during general editing navigation, so I may end up doing an upgrade shortly, and then see how it performs.
Thanks for the replies gents.

Re: Crashes During Rendering
The working folder you have designated in VS's Preferences, is where VS will use for most of it's work. If you're using the Smart Proxy feature, then the drive, and/or directory could yet be another. I would highly recommend freeing up some space on your D: drive so VS has some room to work with.

Re: Crashes During Rendering
I have migrated to a new machine at the weekend, and I no longer have the problem. Could well have been the lack of diskspace that was the problem, but everything is working fine, and much faster than my old machine. Thanks for all your suggestions everyone.
