VS X2 hangs up in CLIP mode on AVCHD imported files.

Post by northdenvertom »

I have VS X2 that came bundled on my HP Quad Core HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook. I decided to give it a shot for editing and creating High Def home movies. I spent a day and half reading and studying the user manual and really liked what I saw. I am a newbie here, but have tried other programs in the past without reaching my goals. I previously used the Sony software that came with my Sony HDR-UX10, but was not giving me the results I wanted. I have VideoReDo TV suite but doesn’t edit ACVHD in native format. I also use divx convertor to compress HD TV shows I get off of Tivo and play them on my PS3.

Here’s the problem: I have loaded up the library with a few AVCHD files (m2ts) and when I try to preview my AVCHD clip in CLIP mode the program hangs up and has to be closed. There is no error, just the cursor going to wait mode. I have let it “wait” for 30 minutes. This doesn’t happen in PROJECT mode. It doesn’t happen with other HD files mpg, avi etc. I’ve searched to forum and corel site.

Devices: Sony HDR-UX10 connected via USB. I tried CAPTURE through the camcorder, copying from my C drive and F drive and loading to library .
The program is Visual Studio X2 12.0.160.1

Patches installed: service pack 1 and ultimate service pack 2

Source files:
Sony HDR-UX10
Direct import to VS X2, copy to C, F drive and import to VS X2, AVCHD m2ts, 9050 kbs data rate, 9306 kpbs total bit rate, Audio 256 kpbs

Project settings: tried both DVD and AVI settings.

Here are my goals: I would like to create some type of HD home video (720p or 1080i) to be played on a Blu Ray or PS3. I also want to create an identical DVD home movie 480i/480p and still have some decent quality.

Often, AVCHD imported to your camera using the Sony software, and then opened in VS for editing, will play better that if you import it directly with X2. Try that and see if it makes any difference...

Thanks. I imported the files via Sony PMB media importer to my local drive (had to update the software to work on my new laptop) VS X2 still hangs. I'm going to contact Corel next. Then maybe I try the free version of X3.
