vs8se crashing or freezing

Hello I am new to this video capturing and when I go to capture in v8 it freezes up on me , I have installed a capture card winfast TV2000 xp please help if you can as I am trying to make a dvd of our old home movies I am using my cannon video recorder to capture from

Make sure you have installed first your Winfast capture card drivers properly. Make sure also it's the updated driver for the OS you're using. I hope your Winfast card is a Firewire card (aka 1394 card) and you're using Windows XP. If not, just get any brand of Firewire card and use it instead.

My capture card is not a firewire card do I really need a firewire card as I just purchased this card

You only need a FireWire card if you want to capture DV from a camcorder. If you want to record from analog sources or a TV tuner, the WinFast card will be fine.

Can you provide more details about your system and the problem, exactly when it happens etc.?

Hi I am running windows XP OEM not an upgrade versionI have 80 gig hard drive I have 1 gig of memorey my system is a p4 2.8 gig as for getting the new drivers I can't seem to get the download page to work I have been there 3 times
This problem occurrs as soon as I start to do a recording using the program it freezes on me I am recording from a cannon camcorder hi8mm

If you have a Hi8 camcorder, it probably uses an analog connection and not FireWire. Make sure that in UVS, you select the DirectShow capture plugin (I think from the Tools menu), then go to Capture and choose AVI format capture using the WinFast card as the video source -- that's on the Options menu (the gear icon).
