DVDMF7SE and TV safe area

Post by Roberto »

Hello,

I need to help/suggestions for this "problem".
Scenario: I have several videos rendered by VS X3 in MPEG2 DVD 4:3 resolution and I want to create a DVD (I used the standard template in VS X3 for DSD).
I use DVDMF7SE, put all the videos, burn the DVD, play on my flat screen TV... it happens that, compared to what I can see when the videos are played on the PC, on the TV the videos are slithly cut in the borders...
The TV screen is set to 4:3 as well.
OK... I found the "TV safe area" parameter in the DVDMF7SE in the Settings->Preference, but even changing it from 10 to 0 does not reduces the video cutted edges.
Hence, the question is: how to create a 4:3 DVD video thata will have on TV the exact size I can see on the PC ?

Thanks in advance for you help :-)

Thanks.
So, it looks like I should resize (re-render) the original videos cropping down to a safe area, right ?

In a nutshell the issue has to be tackled at the filming stage. When you take your film you must remember that on a TV screen you could lose heads and feet and should adjust your camera zoom accordingly. When you later edit your video you have to take into account the safe area when you add Titles (and other things - e.g. overlays).

Don't worry about it unduly, I have seen lots of Hollywood Blockbusters on the TV where the writing has been too wide for the screen. If you are really stuck then you can do something similar to what I did when I converted my collection of super 8 cine film to DVD.

Thanks.

Actually I shall fit at least one of the original videos, which (guess what?) is the one where I play together with "myself" ("myself"... also formerly know as my "twin bro"... who actually does really exist, but is quite busy in Italy to teach his 6,5, and 4 years old kids about how to ski rather than come to Shanghai to play with his "chinese" bro... )
In that video, if I do not save the "safe area" part of the right player vanishes, particularily the right hand.
I will try this evening to crop/distort the original video and render it again...

Btw, what's actually the Safe Area parameter in DVBDMF7SE for ?

It is mostly for when you add Titles or other text to the screen to help ensure that
ou don't miss off the start and en
of a title
