OMG!!! This is too cool!!! Best 2D to 3D I've seen!

Post by LGO »

I have no idea how this guy did it (smoke & mirrors? ), but this is the best use of 2D photos edited to look like 3D and then inserted into a video that I've ever seen.

I've heard that applying a slight blur to all of a photo except the subject creates a better depth of field to achieve a 3D effect, but that can't be all this guy has done, can it?????????

The parts I'm talking about are the single photos that he pans and zooms on - they start around the 19 second mark.

Maybe this is the wrong forum to post since I'm talking about use of still photos, but I'll take my lumps and start here anyway.

Okay, Gurus, Yodas, Nerds Extradonaire :D , how does he do this???????? :?

This is one way to achieve this 3D effect. It requires patient and time. You simple cut out part of the image that is going to appear 3D. The image must be in a format that supports transparency (alpha channel), like PNG. This is then placed on an overlay track, immediately above the image it was cut out of.

I don't think he used VS, that's for sure.

That is awesome. I think one way to achieve the effect may be to do a "y-axis" rotation in a photo program (I don't see how to do this in VS) so that for example the left side of the photo is closer, and the right side of the photo is farther away. Then using pan-zoom in VS may achieve the effect... Al

New Blue's PiP effect, which is included with VS X3, may also get closer to the 3D effect. With it you can rotate X,Y, and Z axis, adjust the size, all with keyframe control.
