The program has encountered a specified error and stopped
Installed above progam 2 wks ago and prepared several movies (VSP files) with photos, videos, labels and music. Now when I playback I get a message:
Corel Videostudeo Pro
The program has encountered a specified error and stopped.... and I am told to contact tech support to send a dump file and a long code is given.
The computer freezes and I have to do a Shift/alt/delete to get out. Rebooting, removing the music does not help. I have not yet gone to SHARE.
It has taken me almost 2 hours to get to you. What should I do now??

Re: Videostudeo Pro X3
First welcome to the forums, and sorry about the 2-hr delay in "getting to us". However this new board software (phpBB3), has some built in security, that requires the first 2 posts of new members be manually approved by the moderators/staff of the web board. Since we're users like you, and volunteer our free time, every now and then there will be a slight delay in getting a reply..
You appear to be using a nesting method, where you create projects (VSP), save them, and then insert each project into a main project. While this is a nice feature, and most of the time works well, it can create problems, one being tracking down what specifically is causing the program to crash. You must look at each project (VSP) separately, looking at the transitions used, if there may be a corrupt video file, and even if all the clips are still in the same locations.
What is the format(s) of your original source video clips? Are they SD (Standard Def) or HD (Hi-Def)? Are you using any AVCHD clips? If you are using AVCHD, do you have several of these throughout your projects? If so, then you might need a more powerful computer to deal with that. Just editing a single AVCHD clip can require a decent dual-core system at the minimum.
Project files (VSP) are just instructions to the program, everything from where the clips reside on your system, to all the edits you want done. When you preview your project, VS must apply all the edits to all the clips on-the-fly. So if you're using several highly compressed video formats in each project, and now in your main project you want to preview it, that's going really task your system, and the program.
You might also look at the audio files being used. VS will at times be stubborn and reject some mp3 files, it seems to handle wav files much better. You may want to look at converting any mp3 files to wav.
Finally try rendering each of the projects that you want to include in your main project. This is done in the Share step, Create Video file. The format depends on what your intended final distribution is to be, DVD, internet, or just for viewing on your PC. Are you working on HD or SD, and going to burn DVD (SD), Blu-Ray, or AVCHD discs? It's always better to limit the number of times a video clip is rendered to retain quality. So for example if you're final product is to be SD DVD, then I would render each project to DVD compatible MPEG-2 video files. Then insert those into your final main project.

Re: Videostudeo Pro X3
Dear Ron,
Many thanks for your help, but I still have problems in the SHARE mode.
First to respond to your suggestions:
The reason my VSP files were crashing was because the .MOV music files from my panasonic movies were incompatable with my inserted .wav files. When I split the .MOV file from the clip and deleted it I could creat a satisfactory .VSP file. Can these .MOV files be converted to .wav?
I have no AVCHD files from the camera.
I was able to render the movies ok, but I cannot get them to burn in the share mode. There seems no way to move the files to the title strip at the bottom of the share window.
Next I tried merging the .VSP files (you called it nesting). I found that if I had the nested program up and then pushed 'create disc' I could get it to burn maybe once, then the system crashes.
The share mode seems much inferior to the old u-lead program.
Eventually I want to burn HD, AVCHD and/or Blue Ray disks, but I cannot get past the SD stage.
Can you help?
Grant

Re: Videostudeo Pro X3
Grant,
How are you merging the VSP (projects) files, rendering 2 or more of them? What I suggested is that you render each project. Inserting one project (VSP) file into another is nice, but can cause problems, when it does, then you need to render any VSP file intended on being inserted into another project (VSP), to a video file. Then insert the video file into the project. Since you're working with SD video, in the Share step, select Create video File, NTSC or PAL DVD. This will render your project to a DVD compliant MPEG-2 video file.
Yes you can find file conversion programs doing a Google search. A freebie that has been recommended here is SUPER by erightsoft.com. The actual download link is somewhat hard to find, and I tried linking directly to it, however they don't allow it. You need to click on the links saying to Download Super. They do have advertisements for AVS with download links, which confuses a lot of people thinking that is the link to download Super. Can these .MOV files be converted to .wav?

Disregard, forget about, don't even try, using the Share>CreateDisc. This will only open the poorly conceived DVD Factory 2010. You should be able to download DVDMovieFactory 7SE through the DO MORE feature. This is Corel's replacement to DVD Factory 2010. In any case, you must first render your project to a video file, which is Share>Create Video File. Then close VS, and launch either DVD Factory 2010, or best, use DVD MovieFactory 7SE, and insert your newly created video files, and proceed on to authoring your discs. The share mode seems much inferior to the old u-lead program.

Re: Videostudeo Pro X3
Dear Ron,
Thanks again for your patience. I have followed your instructions and downloaded DVD Movie Factory 7SE. I rendered my VSP file and brought it into the Movie factory 7SE program which I recognize to be very similar to the U-lead SHARE/burn program which I am accustomed to. I created a menu with my own background scene and music as I was wont and then ran a preview. I moved to the burn page and all seemed well. I normalized the audio and burned a DVD. Then I played the new disc on my DVD player. The menu was as I set it with my custom background and music. I pressed play and the video came up fine, BUT there was no audio!
I repeated the entire process and the preview was again normal for both Audeo and video, but to no avail. The only thing I noticed was that the music was stated to be not in the Dolby 5:1 format, but in something else that had an L in it. That may have only referred to the menu.
NEXT, I noticed there were two service packs for the Movie Factory 7 progam so I downloaded them only to discover that I must get a "retail"version of the Movie Factory - which was nowhere in evidence on that page.
Question. If the Movie Pro 2010 was ill-considered, why did they not send the DVD Movie Factory 7 in my initial package? I purchaced Videostudio as part of a Photo and Video Pro bundle just about 3 weeks ago. Coral seems to have poor customer service.
Do you think I will need to buy a new movie maker program. I'll call coral Monday, but they will probably send me back to the forum.

Re: Videostudeo Pro X3
The other L would be LPCM (Linear Pulse Code Modulation), which is a lossless audio format. If you're wanting Dolby 5.1, you need to to use the Custom option in the Create Video File menu. It is located at the very bottom. Once you select Custom, the custom dialog window will open, then for the Save as type select MPEG files (*.mpg). Now click the Options button, and go to the Compression tab. For Media type select NTSC (unless you're located in a PAL region) DVD. Next for the Audio Settings, Audio Format select Dolby Digital Audio, then for the Audio Type, select 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR). That should provide you with Dolby 5.1.

Re: Videostudeo Pro X3
Once again thanks Ron. I followed your instructions to the letter, reviewed them and the problem persists. I believe the fault is in the DVD Movie Factory 7SE prgram since it plays with the sound on preview, and the menu plays sound on my DVD player. The titles, tansitions and overlays are intact - but no sound with the video itself.
Questions.
1. on the project settings in the MF7E program, there are default checks on:
Do not convert compliant MPEG files [I understand this now.]
&
Treat MPEG audio as non-DVD compliant [still do not understand this]
Could these be the source of the problem?
2. Is smart proxy a good thing always?
3. I assume Dolby 5:1 is superior to the LPCM as I have a surround sound system. [Heard from Coral that I should render with LPCM 5:1; Have done so and I can now record.]
4. Should I pursue Coral re the "retail" version of Movie Factory SE, and then get the upgrades? It seems it should have been included in the VS package.
Regards,
Grant

Dear sjj,
Thanks for the comment. What is a Codec, and how do I find it on the computer?
