Patching X3
I recently downloaded an installed the patch for X3. The original installed showed the version as 13.0.0.253. The patch is called 13.01. My question because I am a "noob" when it comes to these things is, after the install of the patch should the program read 13.01 as opposed to the original version number?

Re: Patching X3
the patch is the same. I believe 13.0.0.253 is just abbreviated (finalized) to V13.01 once they determine it's working.

Re: Patching X3
Just an observation, but doesn't the release of a succession of "patches" mean that the original was bad to start with? Ought not these patches instead be beta versions, the testing done and the bugs fixed BEFORE the product is released to paying customers? Back when Jasc had the product, the beta testing was exhaustive and many were invited to participate. Yes, it often was a long time between new releases, but when the product came out, it was right. Given the option between frequent, but bug-ridden releases and only occasional, but solid releases that truly represent improvement and not just "fluff", I know which I'd prefer.
Would you want to fly in an airplane that was covered with "patches??!!"

Re: Patching X3
Corel had done beta testing prior to this. I don't know the exact reason for what happened this time around but I don't count it a view of things to come. I truly believe Corel will learn from this.
However the comparison of an airplane with patches and a software package with colors falls apart from the beginning. So, while witty, not really a good comparison. Unlike an airplane with patches that can fall off, once you've updated software with all of it's patches it's better than having come shiny and new. You can't account for every problem. Even in testing it's possible to miss something. Even Jasc had patches, though very rarely needed, did they not?
