Rendering SD video and HD video on the same timeline

Post by trackfactory »

Hi all.

I am using Corel VideoStudio to do a work project. The project consist of footage from my Sony HD camera, as well as a Standard Definition (640 x 480) motion background video file.

I green screened the HD footage, dropped it on the 2nd video track and used the SD motion background video file on the 1st track.

When I render the final video to an HD file (such as HD 1080 or 720) the motion background video file still renders in a 4x3 aspect ratio, while the HD footage renders in 16x9. If you can imagine, this doesn't look good, since the chroma key effect daisappears towards the left and right edges of the screen where the SD video file doesn't stretch to the end of the screen.

If I render to an SD file (4x3 or 16x9) the "misalignment" is no longer there, however my HD footage on the 1st track gets squashed to 4x3 (even when I select 16x9??).

I absolutly need to render in HD instead of SD for this project. I can't get the background video file in HD format. Is there anything I can do to have the background video file rendered in 16x9 aspect ratio to match the HD footage on track 1?

I tried to render just the background video file in a 16x9 format using Corel, then droping that output file onto my project timeline, but that didn't work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, in advance.

Obviously, the background clip will need to be stretched (distorted) in order to fit into a 16:9 frame. Assuming your project is set to 16:9, with your 4:3 clip selected on the timeline, click on the Attribute tab and choose Distort Clip. Doing so will activate a "distort box" around your clip in the Preview Window. Right click on the clip in the Preview Window and choose Fit To Screen.
