Stuttering Display on Monitor with VS ProX3

Post by Oldiehuck »

Having been editing SD video for many years I am totally new to editing HD for a friend who has even less knowledge than me. My problem seems to be that after about 2 or 3 minutes of viewing my editing on the timeline, my monitor display starts stuttering i.e. the video does not flow smoothly but jerkily. I have enabled Smart Proxy. Not being fully PC literate I asked my local PC expert who is sadly not a video editing type, if my PC met the specs demanded by VS ProX3 and he told me that my PC has a higher spec than needed for editing etc HD video on ProX3 but it still doesn’t run smooth. Son suggested that I needed to connect my PC to our HD TV so did that with a good DVI to HMDI cable but it still stuttered. Have to admit that we had both monitor and TV running at the same time so don’t know if we should have turned off the monitor. I have referred this question to Corel to advise me what I have actioned incorrectly and how I can correct this happening, but so far no response so am hoping one of you Forum experts can throw some light on how I can solve this problem please
Many thanks in hope..................Frustrated Oldiehuck
P.S. - sorry to have to ask this also, but how do I go about adding my PC personal and PC profile as have been asked to do??
Thanx again.............Dennis

You still don't seem to have updated your profile. However, if the High Def video you are dealing with is AVCHD, and your computer is anything less than a pretty decent Core2Duo, then that would explain the jerky motion. HDV, on the other hand, should play smoothly even on Pentium 4 machines...

Good morning Ken. Yes apols for not doing my Profile yesterday as it was the first sunny day over here so the outside called. However have now completed the details (correctly I hope but without foto as couldn’t find how to paste that in to the profile) and as you will see I do not have a Core2Duo (whatever that is) so will have to speak to my PC man about rebuilding my PC (again) as I may soon be onto videoing with AVCHD. After reading this point you made I re-checked the properties of the original video scenes and yes they were AVCHD and not just in HD as he told me so stuttering problem solved thanks – and I thought I was old enough to have learned not to believe what other people tell me!! Thanks again for your help and apols to you and others who’s time I may have wasted with my unnecessary question.....................A more awake Old Fogie

Hello again Ken - sorry to throw another question your way but any hopes you could be more specific with your comments "pretty decent" when referring to that Core2Duo, which I now know is a processor. Also being a bit PC illiterate, when upgrading to the Core2Duo should I also be considering changing from my standard PC monitor to a manageable size HD TV - or would that be a nece=ary change anyway??
Thanks in advance for your ongoing thoughts on this topic dragging me screaming into the 21st century........................Dennis

By pretty decent, I meant essentially a high end, recent, powerful Core2Duo at the minimum. But since you seem to be on the prowl for something new, then forget the Core2Duos and go for either an Intel i5 or preferably i7 Core machine...

I'm sorry but I have no real thoughts about monitor vs. HDTV... The monitor I use is an Acer 24" and it is full HD resolution anyway (1920 x 1080). I guess that is the only benefit of using a HDTV if your current monitor is not full HD resolution -- but there are so many of these monitors on the market today, at good prices, that it is a good excuse to upgrade. And if you already have a HDTV card in your computer, that would probably be cheaper than buying a HDTV to act as a monitor...

Ken - very many thanks for your thoughts. I didn't realise that monitors had such high resolutions so will now start my hunt.

Hi Jeff - Many thanks for your guidance on how to post my avatar/image but so far no success as right clicking will not offer me the option of pasting my image into the avatar rectangle offered. So would appreciate you advising this thick oldie how to paste my image there
Many thanks........................Dennis aka Oldiehuck

You can't just paste an image there. Just like posting images in a post, your avatar must reside somewhere on the World Wide Web. As the directions state, you Link Off-Site by entering the url of the location containing the image you want to use as your avatar.

I don't know what Internet provider you are using, but most, if not all, provide some web space to you. You can use that to upload your picture to, then direct the forum to use that as your avatar.

Good looking??? Scary would be my word but you won't be seeing me just yet as the link I have for my avatar is 120x120 and it's not acceptable as itr's too big. Did enter the 80x80 size where it says size but still no luck so will have to find out how to resize the image as it's on a public site cos neither me nor Son have a web site to put it on. Now tring to find other friends who may have a web site so keep watching my Avatar buit wear dark glasses in case I appear............................Once more a frustrated Oldie
