DVD Capture

Post by sportswizdan »

Hi everyone...

Thanks to all of you who have helped me in previous posts. I have learned alot from this forum, great work!!! One more question. Im going to be getting some family movies that were copied to DVD, so none of them have any protection or are copyrighted.

In capturing this footage or any other source DVD footage do I hook up my DVD player and still use my digital camcorder as a "bridge" via firewire to my pc...(like I do for my analogue stuff) OR can I capture it direcly from my computers DVD drive somehow? Even if I can capture it thru the drive, what is the "best" way to do it to get the best resolution? Any other tips or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

Capturing from the DVD ius always best. Put it in the drive. Then go to Capture and and select 'Capture from DVD'. You'll need to tell VS where the DVD's Video_TS folder is and then it will import the video file information in it's original mpeg2 format.

There's no need to do any of that.

If you have UVS 8 or UVS 9, click on the icon in the lower left corner and select "Insert DVD / DVD-VR".

If you have UVS 7, you can change the capture plugin to the DVD Capture Plugin, and then use Capture to get the video into UVS.

The only potential problem could come if the DVD uses AC3 audio. UVS 7 doesn't support it, and UVS 8 requires you to purchase the AC3 Dolby Digital Powerpak plugin. UVS 9 includes support for AC3 standard (except SE versions).
