Error message : The file "name.vsp" is already in use
Hi,
As it did not working well in Win7, I have been uninstalling VS Pro X2. So, I purchased the downloadable upgrade version of VideoStudio Pro X3. The problem : I'm not able to open an existing VSP file. I get this error message : The file "name.vsp" is already in use. What's happened ? Thank you.

How are your trying to open it? From within X3, or from My Computer/Windows Explorer?

Reboot your computer and try opening it again.

Re: Error message : The file "name.vsp" is already in
May I offer a possible solution.
I'm guessing that you store your VSP on a disk other than the "C" drive! If so copy the VSP to your desktop then open VS x3 and click File, Open Project. Go to the VSP on the desktop and it should open. If OK go back to the original location rename the original VSP by putting a "X" after the name then goback to the VS x3 save the project to the original location with the original name and from then on the VSP will open in VS x£ from the original location. You only have to do this once. Once saved as an X3 file you cannot open in X2 but I doubt you would want to. If you do think you might need to save the VSP as a X2 file in your X3 program.
If all the above works delete the VSP on your desktop. Whether you keep the renamed VSP on the original location is up to you. I don't bother myself

Thank you very much. You have solved my problem. I am going to do the same for the others projects that I want to use or modify.

Good to hear it worked for you. Just so that others may benefit could you confirm that your original VSP was saved to an external hard drive?Hamel wrote:Thank you very much. You have solved my problem. I am going to do the same for the others projects that I want to use or modify.

Hi Hamel
Sorry to keep on about this, just one more point. I am trying to work out why this happens to some members and not others. I have found it happens when the original VSP that was saved in VSx2 on a machine running Windows XP and is trying to be opened in VS x3 on a machine running Windows 7. Can you let me know if this applies to you?
Thanks

Yes. That is what happened. I used VS-X2 on a computer with windows XP-SP3. In december, I bought a new computer with Win 7. All my projects are on an external hard drive. Please keep me informed of what's happening with the other members because I think it could happen with other applications. Thank you and happy easter.

Thanks Hamel and Easter greetings to you.
This could well happen with other programs though I have not seen it with MS Office. I upgraded to MS 2007 at the same time as Win 7 and that hasn't been a problem but I will put this out on a Windows 7 Forum that i am a member of to see if anyone there has experienced it. will keep you informed via this forum

Re: Error message : The file "name.vsp" is already in use
Hey guys
I know this is an old thread but I'm having a very similar problem, but not able to solve it with above solution.
All of my old work from my Windows XP laptop in VSP3 won't open on my new Windows 7 laptop, still in VSP3.
I have all of my files saved on my external hard drive.
I tried copying the .vsp file from my exhd to my desktop and opening from VSP3 but then I get:
Original file [G:\Vorlage Video\Working Folder\2011-04-27\110209_141448_import_001.MTS] doesn't exist.
If I try to open directly from my exhd I get
File "...vsp" is already in use
Anyone know what I can do about this? Much appreciated!

Hi
Are you able to open the VSP’s on any PC using VS3?
If yes then create a Smart Package, File-Smart Package.
Transfer the package to the other pc’s, does the VSP open.
You could also try saving the Smart Package to the external HD.
---------------------
Nesting Projects……..
Have you by any chance nested your VSP files.
This is where you insert a VSP file to the timeline.
If you are able to open the VSP in any PC, check the timelines content.

When you received the error message : - Original file [G:\Vorlage Video\Working Folder\2011-04-27\110209_141448_import_001.MTS] doesn't exist, did the error box not offer you the option to 'Relink' ? - that is the message you would normally get after moving files around - did you try to relink there - all you have to do when you get that message is click on Relink - browse to the new file location - select it and click 'open' and VS does the rest

Yes - In a addition to saying the file does not exist, I also get the option to relink. When I try to relink, I selected the .vsp file copied to the desktop again but then I get a message saying that "Unable to open - file format mismatch".BrianCee wrote:When you received the error message : - Original file [G:\Vorlage Video\Working Folder\2011-04-27\110209_141448_import_001.MTS] doesn't exist, did the error box not offer you the option to 'Relink' ? - that is the message you would normally get after moving files around - did you try to relink there - all you have to do when you get that message is click on Relink - browse to the new file location - select it and click 'open' and VS does the rest
I tried re-linking back to the external hard drive file, but got the same message.
