The one thing that I have noticed with this issue is that everyone that has it has an i7 Intel Processor.

My friend had the same issue, so what I had him do is create a Smart Package and then tested on my Core 2 Quad 9550 and it worked fine. What I have discovered from troubleshooting on my friends system is that it has to do with the H.264 format.

I was able to render the file as a MPEG2 (1920x1080) file using the Blu-ray template. Once the video file was done rendering we were then able to burn it to disc.

I am not sure what the cause of the issue but I am thinking maybe a compatibility issue with the i7 processors maybe?

Here is the error from the Windows Event Viewer:

Faulting application name: vstudio.exe, version: 13.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4bd90870
Faulting module name: H264VDec.dll

Any thoughts?

I have the same issue and I am using an i7 based system. I really do hope that all the bright minds in this forum can somehow sort this VERY annoying problem :(
As I am posting this comment I have tried the .ini trick and so far it seem to work, will let you know when the rendering (hopefully) is done.

Kind Regards

Update,

The .ini fix did change something as I now get another error instead (Insufficient Memory 15033:0:0).
I find it very hard to believe that 6GB of RAM shouldn't suffice.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Ok,
So now I found a post somewhere on the forums that suggested that Virtual Mem should be raised to 10 GB or above and so I did.
Guess what? No more insufficient memory error, BUT the H264VDec.dll, version 4.2.0.12 error is back instead.
This really is driving me NUTS

Please help me!

Hello,

My CPU is a i7 too, and i have obviously the same problem.

A little research on various newsgroups, including yours, It seems that this is a problem of management of multi-core by your software.
By disabling the multi-core in the bios, this time VSX3 managed to finish creating my high definition video but it is slow ...

I can't stay any time with it disabled...

Please Corel, give us ua new patch!!!!

Thank you Boulbar! :D :D

I never really thought that would help but I also got it working by disabling HT in BIOS. So editing with HT enabled and sharing with HT disabled seem to be the way for us to go.
Corel PLEASE fix this!

I continue to have this problem once I went from 2 Canon cameras to the Canon cameras plus a new Panasonic. I understand that the bug is "known" but not fixed yet.

Is there a way to build a simple DVD while this is being fixed?

I too have a problerm with Videostudio Pro X3 crashing. I have been in communictaion with Corel for over 3 weeks without resolving the problem.

I have several folders on my PC containing video clips (sorted by subject and date) If I bring to the X3 desktop clips from the current folder (available when X3 starts) the application works fine and I have edited completed films over 20 minutes in total length. However, if I try to change source location to a different folder the application always crashes, asks me to contact technical support and produces a dump file. The PC is running under XP pro service pack 3. So far the suggestions to update video drivers, directx, c++, and to manually remove and reinstall X3 with the patches from the Corel website have all failed to resolve this issue.

The latest advice I have had is to telephone for further support with a note that I may be charged for calling for support.

Does anyone have any further ideas how I can get X3 to perform this most basic of Windows functions - to change folder. Additionally, as the communication from Corel did not make clear what the charging policy is, or what the amounts involved are likely to be, is anyone more experienced in dealing with Corel able to advise please.

I have found a temporary solution.
When i create the video file (avchd for example) start X3 in Win XP SP3 compatibility mode and it works.

Well I tired a earier idea of turningn off HT. This allowed me to build a mpeg (DVD file) BUT IT WILL NOT BURN. I tried multiple tools and multipe machines to burn a standard DVD.

HD format does not work at all, as you experienced. HT on or off. "Smells like" a synchroinization or buffer overflow/

Corel says its a known bug about HD format. Yes, that is why I got X3 as well.

I wish Corel woudl put out a trace program that would allow us to pinpoint the problem for them. We all are looking for working software, used to Corel interface, etc. :(

Right now I have several home movies to make all on wait until Corel fixes things. Is it time for other vendor's software? THis has been going on a long time.

I disabled HT, AVCHD woudl not work but it made a MPEG file (standard DVD fmt). However, it woudl not BURN. I tried differnet computers and different tools (DVD Factory, Roxio, Windows Movie Maker). The differnet computers include my Core i7 and two different Core 2 Duo's.

It seems to burn a couple of bytes then hangs.

Question. Were you able to burn it on the Core i7 system or did you use the other one?

I thought only I have this problem with VSX3.
I was so excited buying a new computer specially for movie editing with VS Pro X3. Two weeks ago I got it! It has Intel i7-960 3.2GHz CPU, 12 Gb memory, ATI redeon videocard. And Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit OS. My previous comp has Win XP service pack 3. I had no problem with VSX3 running on old PC. A little bit slow HD clips and really slow any files convertion. Here came a new computer! VSX3 does not work as use to be!!! And craches all computer! It does not recognized my ACVHD camcorder, not responding at all!
Troubleshooting compatibility says "Windows compatibility mode:Windows XP (service pack 2)"??? How I can change the mode to Win 7?
In Program properties Windows 7 does not exist at all!
Please help!
