X3, stopped working very often, reinstalled 6 times ....

Post by teleoma »

I cannot get VX3 working, in HD anyway which what the reason I bought VX3.
I reinstalled my system up to 3 times now, reinstalled VX3 a lot of times, downloaded today a fresh copy of VX3 to install once again, every time I try to achieve something in VX3 it stopped working.
I called on the Corel Support, tried all their suggestions, but the last one (which was: call our telephone support), without any improvement.

I already traced all the H264VDec.dll versions om my PC and replaced them with the newest one. No change.

Have somebody already have this problem?

In event viewer (Win7 64b) this is the error description:

Yes, the same with my German version (X3 and as well X2 after installing X3; running Windows 7 64bit):

Input files are always AVCHD-Full-HD-Format (Video: 16,0 Mbps, 1920x1080 (16:9), at 25,000 FPS, AVC (PAL)[High@L4.0] (CABAC / 2 Ref Frames); Audio: 384 Kbps, 48,0 KHz, 2 channels, AC-3) which have been rendered by Video Studio itself (!!!) (from original files copied from my Sony HDR-SR12E with some transitions added and smartrender on).

Interestingly the same input files can be proccessed by Microsoft's Windows Live Movie Maker (for conversion into WMV) without any problems. So it seems to me that Corel's H.264-decoder might be buggy.

Do these problems occur with everything you try to do, or only when you try to render the files? I notice, for instance, that ms0 says he/she uses SmartRender. I always advise people not to use SmartRender with high definition video, whether HDV or AVCHD. It may take longer, but I never have any problems that way...

Hi Ken, Hi MS0

I finally succeded in achieving a small project in HD.

I had 4 different instances of H264VDec.dll. I replaced all of them with the latest , version: 4.2.0.7 which came with my new downloaded VSX3 (original VSX3 dd 27-01-2010, no TBYB was 611MB , latest one dd 28-03-2010 no TBYB, is 632 MB).
Hardware acceleration had to be unchecked,
No smart proxy.
And Ken, you are right, smart render must be unchecked.
To be able to open the created file in pinnacle video studio, I had to change the extension from mpg to m2ts.

I do hope this is useful for other.

Unfortunately, with SmartRender disabled, VS reduces - for whatever reason - the bitrate of the videostream from 16Mbps in the input file to 12,8Mbps in its output file (a reducation by 20%).

I'll experiment on this next week, maybe it helps. *sigh*

I have the same computer set up that you do and the only thing that allowed me to render an AVCHD video was to disable the hyperthreading function on the bios for my i7-920 rig.

But are you choosing Share > Create Video File > AVCHD, or Share > Create Video File > Same As First Video? I agree that if it is the former, the average bitrate drops unacceptably. But I find it is fine if I use the latter.

Your're right I did the former. Now I've now tried the latter one and the bitrate of the videostream was reduced only to 14,4Mbps (a reduction by 10%), which is at least closer to the target. BTW I've also disabled hardware acceleration as recommended by teleoma.

The only test remaining is to turn off hyperthreading in BIOS as recommended by ratondeguano (I'll test this next week).

Just created a file with a total bitrate of 18886kbps after doing:
hier I quote philip_l on Sat Jan 30, 2010 somewhere on this forum "edit both these files: GG_App.ini and uvGGPL.ini and set EnableAVCHDSettings to 1. Note, you will need to open these files running Notepad with elavated permissions to save any changes to these files. "
Then I made a new movie template based on "MPEG Transport Stream Files, selecting under General, Frame size= 1920x1080; under Compression Media type Pal HDMV, Quality=100, Video data rate=18000 (which match the files made by my handycam, Sony HDR-XR520).
The rendering went a lot faster this way. and went through without crashing :) .
I did not try yet to disable Hyperthreat in the Bios. I wil later.

This is simply to confirm that the above "hack" (described by teleoma and philip_l) solved my problems.

As I've I tested with different files, I'm now finally able to create with VS X3 a single AVCHD-Full-HD-File with the same specs (particularly same bitrate) as the clips from my camcorder but with smooth transitions inserted, without blips or pixelation and without any crashes. I can't see any degrade in quality (compared to the orginal clips) so this file could now be used as a master for conversions (even with VS X3) or authoring (of course not in VS X3 ;-)).

And it's quite fast: a 2-pass rendering (with smartrender off) of approx. 35 minutes video took less than 1 hour. VS uses all 4 cores and as well as all 8 threads availalbe (average CPU-usage was about 85 to 90%).

This thread looks very promising, but I am very new to this, so if someone could summarize the recommendations of this thread it would be very helpful.

I just built a new computer. Needed to update from pentium 4 and video editing footage of my new daughter was a perfect excuse. Excited to try VS X3, but everything I've tried to render has crashed the program. Which of the following do I need to do to get this working and will corel eventually release an update that will make this software "just work"?

- Disable hyperthreading in BIOS
- Edit GG_App.ini and/or uvGGPL.ini
- Smartrender off
- Hardware encoder acceleration off

Do I need to do all of these, or just some? I don't want to compromise the quality of the final product and would like it to look as crisp as possible on a 1080p HDTV. I plan to burn to BluRay once I get the rendering part figured out.

I am working with .mov, HD (1280x1020p) footage shot from a Canon T2i.

Thanks for any help in advance and feel free to redirect me to another thread, but this one seemed to apply.

Thanks.

I don't think there is any one fix. As problems like these do not affect everyone it is certainly a hardware and/or software conflict that is the cause. Trial and error to see what works in your particular case would be my recommendation.

For whatever reason, Video Studio seems to have a problem with .mov files shot on digital still cameras. The only recommendation I can make is to first convert that video to another format using a conversion program such as SUPER. Personally, I would convert it to AVCHD as that is the format with the nearest equivalent properties. It is sometimes called AVCHD Lite, and X3 can certainly edit it...

For me a must was
  • Edit GG_App.ini and uvGGPL.ini (which enabled me to create a movie template which matches the specifications of the input stream; particularly to increase average bitrate of the output file)
  • Smartrender off
In addition I had "Hardware decoder acceleration off" (but I've not yet tested the impact of turning it on again), but I didn't any changes in BIOS (like disabling hypderthreading).

Hope this helps
