It's baffling to be honest. I went back to my first support thread on the issue. Reference number 100513-000216. On May 27 (!) one 'Katie' said: "The issue with the guides has already been logged and may also be fixed in a product update.". And she asked no further questions. To me that means, we are aware of the issue, we know what's causing it, and we may fix it (if it is deemed important). So I'm surprised about your experience and that I'm now being asked what I'm talking about. I mean, where do they log and report these issues?!

Maybe it was logged and the support people don't know about what has already been logged.

One would hope that level of communication would exist though. I can't imagine that they wouldn't be aware of what problems are already logged. The most likely scenario, the person who emailed you and the guy I talked to just didn't look at the logs to find out if it had been previously reported.

And I'll admit I got a little over excited about the fact that they had me send over actual data on the crash and the system that it crashed on. I may be a little sick, but as much as I hate the fact that PSP has so many problems I really love calling them and giving the specifics. But if it's already logged, and this guy logs it again and they have more information. It might be closer. They keep telling me that another patch is coming, but never give any hints as to projected timelines so we'll see what happens when the third patch comes out.

But until then, we need to gang up on them about problems we experience.

Latest reply:
Since this is a remaining issue I have escalated you concern to our Technical Team. This problem should be addressed with an upcoming update.
So yeah, don't think I can do anything else at the moment.

Having started over with Windows 7 recently I've retested all the bugs to see whether they're all still there (yup ) but during this process I noticed that this guide bug affects PSP 8 as well!

So to be fair to Corel this issue is buried in a very old part of the code base. Still needs fixing of course!

What version of PSP are you using? If it's X3 make sure you have the patches downloaded. The first one for X3 fixed it for me and many others.

Interesting!

I installed the retail version of X3 and let it download and install patch 2 (the one from July).

I assumed patch 2 would have a roll up of previous fixes as well since it was an automatic download - does patch 1 need installing first?

Many thanks!

It didn't fix it for everyone. I originally thought it did but was later proven incorrect. Though the wait time had increased a bit, even how long the bug takes is not consistent between systems. But Paint Shop Pro only downloads patch 2 when checking for updates. So the assumption is that Paint Shop Pro sees no need for the first patch.

This could be a Windows 7 problem as well - I used PSP 9 because in my opinion, it's the most stable version out there! Since I got a new machine with Windows 7 on it, I get the same bug - If you just pull it down in one shot it's ok, but if you hesitate to line it up with something the program freezes.

Just a suggestion.

Sorry, jojomart, but this problem has been around longer than Windows 7. The inconsistency between systems and length of time it takes for the system to freeze up are very different so I imagine it's not easy to pin down.

I use PSP9 and it never happened before i got Windows7, or at least never as often. I have taken the habit of always saving my work just before pulling a guideline.

I am having terrible troubles with this bug in X2. I had problems with it under Xp Professional on a dual core processor also. I had hoped that Win 7 and a fresh install would have fixed it,but no.
I am pretty much unable to use the guides, which are crucial for the type of work that I do.
I have contacted support and they had me do a fresh install and reset to default, then update my video driver and DirectX. None of which have solved the problem. I think Corel needs to get a handle on this.
Does anyone know if the latest service release of X3 addresses this problem?

Apparently it did for some people, but not everyone.

My X3 is still broken even with the latest patch, for example.

So it might work for you - but I wouldn't recommend purchasing X3 just to find out

Sorry, as is evident from my post, I hadn't read them all. Being new to the board I didn't realize there were three pages of posts.
Very odd that some people are having trouble and some not.

Does anyone see any commonalities that could shed some light on this? I'm just wondering if it is worthwhile continuing working with support.
