Scanners/PIX3/Windows 7

Post by brucefl »

Since my microtek scanner doesn 't work with windows 7 :( (no softwareupdates)I need to get a new scanner. Kind of looking at the Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner.
I want to make sure it interfaces correctly with PIX3, I have an all in 1, but I have to scan it, save it then open it in PI.

Can the only ones that interface with PIX3 have to be twain?
Or what else might I be looking at?

thanks Bruce

Hi Bruce
I use three different photo editors and they all need Twain to import from a scanner. No reason to think that PI wont be compatible with the Epson Scanner. It will use Epson Twain anyway and all my editors import OK from it. But I dont have PI installed!

I just Googled the Epson Perfection V700 and to me it seems rather expensive.
No problems using my Cannon MP510 with XP or Vista.

The thing you need to look for when buying a printer is the Ink Cartridges. You can find some printers are given away with a box of cornflakes because the manufacturers then make their money by selling you their ink. My printer has 4 ink cartridges
Black
Red
Yellow
Cyan

I am also impressed with the speed and quality of its scans, much faster than the relatively expensive dedicated "Epson perfection 4490" scanner that I bought so that I could scan Photo Negatives Image

What model is your Microtek? There is quite a list of models on their Driver Download list for Windows 7 at http://ww3.microtek.com.tw/eu/modules/t ... x.php?id=2 so I would have to assume your model is very old if it is not in that list...

Found a topic on another Forum where it was established by a Microsoft Engineer that there is no driver beyond XP for this scanner! A new scanner seems to be calling your name Bruce :(
