BluRay H.264 and MPEG2 Burning Options Question

Post by vanatic99 »

I've done a search and learned a lot about the two BluRay burning options of H.264 and MPEG2 in DVD Factory Pro 2010, but still have a couple of questions specific to my project.

I have 25, 2 hour AVI files, which are about 26GB each and I only want to place one file on each BluRay disk even though I could easily get 2 on each disk using H.264 compression. I also understand that I am only using about 8 or 9 GB of each 25GB BluRay disk when I use the the default settings for H.264. That's fine with me if it results in the best possible video quality, but if it's possible to increase the bitrate or change any of the settings to improve the quality I would like to do it, but I don't see any options for doing so.

I am also open to using the MPEG2 compression option, which would use most of the 25GB of space on the BluRay disk if that would actually improve the video quality.

One more thing, the increased length of time for rendering in H.264 is of no concern to me. These are 18 years worth of home videos of my kids and I simply want the very best quality possible.

Any help and suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks Chris, but as I mentioned and underlined, I only want to put one file on each BluRay disk so obviously, that will not be a problem for either the H.264 or an MPEG2 file; they will both fit on a 25GB disk and a 50GB disk would be a complete waste of money.
My question is, can I change the default settings to improve the quality of the videos? If not, am I better off using the H.264 settings even though the file size will only use about 8GB of the 25GB on a BluRay disk or will the quality be better with MPEG2 settings, which use about 22GB of the 25GB space. If the default settings can be changed to improve the video quality how do I change them?

H.264

I doubt if you will notice any difference in quality between MPEG2 and H.264 (AVCHD ) when played on domestic equipment The H.264 is very highly compressed used by camcorders Ect to squeeze a lot of frottage into a small space Very good for putting HD footage onto a DVD-R about 40mins and will also play on a Blu-ray player One other thing about H.264 is that it will take a long time to burn a Blu-ray disc about 4 times as long for the same amount of MPEG2
H.264 is more about space than quality

Thanks Chrish.
That's the kind of information I am looking for.
