If the audio section is greyed out it is not being recognised, this may be due to the cables being plugged into the wrong connectors, or the connection not being selected in the audio properties of volume control
If the audio is also plugged into the winfast card the winfast card needs to be selected as the audio input

Hi8 Capture

Post by Roger268 »

Hi Ken,
I've re read the notes that Andrew left me, and there is absolutely nothing about using the Winfast software to 'manually' capture the video, which I think is what you are suggesting. However I have called up the various clips in the Winfast Software. No change I'm afraid.

I emailed Andrew last night, but no reply yet, hopefully I will be able to speak to him this evening.

Nothing heard from Jeff thus far today either. I hope he hasn't given up on me.

Tomorrow (25th) I shall be out all day. So please do not look for any posts from me. Rest assured I shall be checking this forum on Friday.

In the meantime, I'n going to check out the new advice from Skier-Hughes. I know the cables are correct because they havn't been touched since Andrew put them in place, and they've been checked and re-checked. But the rest of the post may lead to something. Hopefully, I shall be returning later this evening with tidings of Gladness and Joy. Roger

Hi Skier-Hughes, T.U. for advice. All cables are plugged into the Winfast software and checked. They're OK.

However I will check out the link you offered. If I learn anything useful I will come back to all.

I shall not be OnLine at all tomorrow (25th). But please be assured I will be back on line on Friday (26th) and if I have good news I will be OnLine later this evening.

In the meantime, thank you for trying to help, hopefully your offering might lead to a solution.

Rgds,
Roger

Haven't given up on you, but I have never used a capture device, so was leaving this up to those experienced with them.

Capturing Hi8

Post by Roger268 »

Dear All,
Graham (Skier-Hughes) may well have pointed the way towards a solution to my problem:

In the 'Capture' mode of VS X2, when I select method of capture, quite obviously I choose the camcorder option.

I am then presented with the capture parameters, but the icon that I am focused on at present is the 'Options' button.

When this is selected we are presented with two further choices: Capture Options and Video Properties.

When Capture Options is selected, the Capture Audio box is ticked, but Greyed Out. Graham tells me this means it is not recognised, which would account for the reason I can clearly hear the audio when I am capturing, but not on Playback - it has not been captured!!!

Now I may be a 'Newby' to this game, but would this not offer a possible clue to my solving my 'Nil Audio' problem on playb ack?

The question now is; 'How do I stop the Audio Box from Greying Out?

Both Winfast software (as suggested by Ken) and VS X2 searched for a solution. Can anyone help? :)

T.U. for that Jeff, Graham might have stirred my poor old family brain cell into action. See my last posting. You might have some ideas you can offer there.

I shall check to see if anyone has come up with anything new later this evening, but as already stated I will not be around tomorrow (25th)

Roger,

Try to use information from the following sources:
FAQ page of you TV card: http://www.leadtek.com/eng/support/faq/ ... 112204.pdf
Download user manual: ftp://ftp.leadtek.nl/mirror/tv_tuner/TV ... 8D%29E.pdf

I suspect that your son captured video not using VideoStudio, but native Leadtek software for WinFast. Reason for this: different naming of the resulting files. AFAIK, VS never name the files as you son captured. Also, googled the Internet for the file pattern (S-Video).mpg with your card name - looks like it is file produced by native software, not VS.

So, please
1) close VideoStudio
2) read the FAQ for audio setup and check your conditions (I think you don't need to open case of the computer, just double check outside cables). Continue to read the article for the setting up the native software.
3)Read User Manual (they have some information for capture video) and capture using native software
4) Open VideoStudio and use it to edit already captured video...

Hi8 Whats Hi8...just kidding.

So the cam has no firewire port? Might be a time to get a camcorder with fire wire :-)

Hi Sergeyso,
Thank you for supplied info. I shall be unable to read it tomorrow (25th), so it will be Friday 26th March before I will be able to read it/check it out.
Thank you for your interest, and I will come back to you in a few days to let you know how I've got on.
Bye for now,
Roger

Dear All,
Thank you for your help, but I think it is time to put the lid on this. A friend has loaned me an anologue to Digital converter (that doesn't work either), no help from Corel, and in truth I do feel they could have helped a little more. Corel's loss - it will be a long time before I buy any more Corel products.
I'm giving up the idea of editing my Hi8 tapes and sticking with digital editing from DVD's and a digital camcorder - at least I know that works!!!

If it's a budget one connecting by usb again it will need it's own software, if it's a good one and connects by firewire then does it not work with VS, windv, movie maker, the winfast app?

Hi8

Hi Graham, for what it is worth, the item in question is a Pinnacle Systems invention - a Dazzle Video Creator 80. Itr has a USB connection to computer and a selection of composite and S-video inputs. I do have the software, and the troubleshooting aspect of it informs me there is a problem on the board.
I've emailed Pinnacle (just like Corel - no response) with a view to purchasing an up to date version of Dazzle. But as I say nil response.
Now investigating Serif products. At least there is somebody on the end of the phone. They do not rely totally on forums such as this for customers to sort their own problems.
Serif look promising, but I have not made any financial commitment thus far. Once bitten twice shy!!!

Does it not sound to you that (1) if you have a problem with VS; and (2) if you have what sounds like it might be a similar problem with Pinnacle -- that it might be a hardware problem rather than a software problem which now sounds as though it is affecting two totally independent pieces of software made by totally different companies...?

.... or (3) as we suggested originally, that you identify and try using the software which comes with the first capture card???!!!

.... or (4) find your son and finally put us all out of our misery and ask him what he did to capture successfully...???!!!

Do you know what it means by "on the board" motherboard, the board in the converter?
I'm with Ken with the get in touch with Son and get him to run through it step by step with you as remotely we are just too much in the dark.
If you are going to invest in some hardware for doing analogue to digital conversion I'd look at either a decent bit of kit such as the canopus advc range of items or maybe a minidv camcorder that allows for pass through adn supports analogue in, so that you have an item that has two purposes rather than just one.

My son did find time to visit yesterday. He could not find anything wrong with the set up, and it was he who uninstalled/reinstalled everything, and yes I agree there probably is two problems now.

I do appreciate that you cannot see what is happening on my computer, so it must be difficult to analyse any problem from a distance. I appreciate the help you have all tried to give. Sorry to bother you, I will not put any more 'posts' on this forum, and I've taken onboard Grahams suggestion (s), I could do with a new digital camcorder anyway.

Thank you all for your help.
