I have recently commenced using Video Studio X2, for some reason split by scene option is not available in the capture mode and post capture I end up with one large clip
I am using is a Sony HDR-HC9E camera which records HDV on tape.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Split by scene does not work with any high definition format. You can split by scene after capturing the whole single file. Or do as I do and use HDVSplit, a small freeware program which does as its name suggests. Sorry, but I don't have a URL for it. But a simple Google search will find it. And it works just fine! (I have a Canon HV20.)
