And that is your problem!
Whilst the files on the DATA DISC look like a standard Video DVD disc and WILL play on a COMPUTER - the disc is NOT a Video DVD disc.
It is all down to formats - like a computers hard drive can be one of several formats e.g. FAT, FAT 12, FAT 16, FAT 32, NTFS
Likewise with CD/DVD filing systems are also different. a CD/DVD DATA disk is the wrong format and will not be recognised by a stand alone DVD player.

Thanks, John & Steve. Even with the correct folders I still could not hear the sound on WMA, although I seem to have the latest XP version. But when I downloaded VLC Media Player it worked fine. It also works on a TV/DVD player, and tomorrow I will try it on the Library Mac if they will allow me to install the VLC player. Since it is open source, I'm wondering whether I could just include a copy of the VLC player on the DVD with the other files, and suggest that if anyone has trouble seeing the video they install it. What do you think?

I've just spent the last hour scrolling through the 11 pages of this topic (how sad am I?).
I'm using X2 at the moment and, in the past, have gone for VS upgrades pretty much as soon as they come available.
But now I find myself hesitating. Why?
Is it an age thing?
Or perhaps the additional outlay in these credit crunch times?
Or is it all this stuff about authoring, MF7 SE and invisible Get More tabs?

Here's the question:

Is it worth it?

And before I get forcibly removed from the premises by the Web Board police, can I say that I'm not thinking of leaving VS. I'm just asking for some honest opinions on the upgrade.
Are the pros greater than the cons?

Thanks,
Max

Yes! VS X3 has many new features that will enhance your editing, IMHO. As for the authoring module, since you already have X2 you can "avoid" it until Corel gets things sorted out by simply doing all your editing in X3, rendering it to a video file in X3, then open X2 and insert your video file into the X2 authoring module.

I would endorse 100% what Jeff has said. The extra benefits of x3 especially if you are or anticipate using HD in the near future are well worth the expense. The new download of MF 7 SE works very well. I think I read here somewhere that the MF is now included as part of the VS x3 packeage but I may be wrong there. The waiting for the Do More tab to work has been a pain but once completed there is no futher problem on that score. All in all well worth the upgrade, I think.

Jeff/John

Goot to hear from you. Missed you guys!
Are you still on a retainer from Corel?

Jeff - if I upgrade to X3 how do I still get to edit in X2? I figured that as soon as I carry out an upgrade I can no longer access the previous version. Am I missing a Black Lab trick?

John - I am working in HD - mpeg2 files so I reckon that would mean I should definitely be upgrading?

Both - if I send you my bank details and you feel at all like contributing to the cost.........

You don't edit in X2. To do so would negate the reason for upgrading to X3. Do all your work in X3. When finished go to Share>Create Video File. When that is finished you close X3 and open X2. Go to Share>Create Disc, import the previously rendered video file, then author your disc.

But, as John has stated, I too understand the MovieFactory 7 SE will be included in newer versions of X3. When that will actually start, however, I do not know.

IMHO Yes!
Send us your Bank Details by all means but I fear that you would find that somewhat counter productive!
On a serious note, I do hope you realise that there are NO Corel employees on this Forum. We are all members just like you who enjoy trying to help others. You will always get truthful honest opinions but that is all they are personal opinions to be taken or not. Corel do minitor the Forum mainly in the Wish List thread so opinions in there are taken into account when they, Corel, are working on a new release. Unfortunately they didn't take enough notice of the beta testers who said that the original authoring software in beta x3 was rubbish. They then had to go to the expense of issuing a freebie in DF 7 SE.

Jeff,
Typing error on my part.
What I meant to say was "how do I get to 'Share' in X2 if I've upgraded to X3?"
I see from your posting that you're saying I simply close X3 and open X2 but I always figured an upgrade makes it impossible for me to access the older version.
I know (for example) when I do a clean install of X2 it only asks for the licence number of the earlier version but I do not have to insert the old installation disks. I assume it's the same with the upgrade to X3? So how can I access X2 after installing X3?

John,
I know what you guys do is done for free. And this forum is the reason I stay with VS.

Many thanks,
Max

Upgrade versions of the program are full installs. They do not overwrite previous versions. A number of us have multiple versions of VS installed on a single computer, either for the reason stated above, or to help users who are still using older versions. Personally, at the moment on this computer, I only have X2 and X3 installed, but they both work fine individually. The only thing is that you can only have one open at a time.

Hello, is anyone still having trouble downloading the new authoring module for X3? I have been trying since the news it was released, but none of the suggestions I have read in this thread have done the trick so far. This is not a tbyb version of video studio and no other version of movie factory has ever been installed in this computer. As usual contacting corel customer support about the issue has turned up to be a dead end as they don’t feel the need to reply to my email. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problems. I do not get a download link over the “Do more” tabpage.
On my machine all firewalls are off and no virus software is active. I have Win 7 Ultimate with 64Bit version.

No old Movie Factory version is installed on this OS. But I have installed VS Pro X2 parallel to the VS X3 program. And VS X2 have a integrated authoring tool, which is enabled at this time. Should this prevent the new entry on the “Do more” tabpage?

best regards

No, because a lot of us have both X2 and X3 installed and functioning.
