I have had a litany of problems since downloading VSX3 Pro in February. After finally getting a valid install (another story in itself), I found real problems editing and constant crashes. I sent off the DMP files but the auto responses were (how shall I say it.....?) polite but utterly uninformative. I eventually traced it back myself to the possibility of an old install of Pinnacle 12 and ripped it out, uninstalled VS, reinstalled and it was altogether different in operation. Even managed to successfully burn a 21 minute file with AVCHD and jpegs files. It just took precious months off my life trying to decipher the titles/chapter thingos and then waiting for VS to cope with the rendering. Left it overnight.
However, when I returned to the project later and added background files (music, titles, voice over and a few more videos) it took the file length to 26 mins. When I burnt the DVD, it appeared OK, but would run only for 5 or 6 seconds, then jump back to the start. I tried it on two DVD players and my PC with the same result. Figuring it may be faulty media, I reburnt the project with exactly the same problem. It may be that the 2GB RAM is struggling to cope.
After reading the Forum entries, I am currently downloading DMFSE to see if that helps. If not, I will upgrade with extra memory. If that doesn't work, I still have the suicide option, I guess!!

Authoring AVCHD output to file is not allowed.
When Preview is used MF7SE aborts and shuts down.
So is it not posssible to output AVCHD to folders or ISO image file with DVD MF 7 SE?

Edit: remove wrongly attributed quote; Sorry Ken!
I was careless in trimming the quoted text.

You can certainly create the AVCHD folder. Inside that is the BMDV folder ready to burn to a disk. I have done just that in the last 10 mins so I am certain it works. I just uploaded my MPG file, unchecked the Create Disk and checked Create AVCHD folder and clicked " Burn".

I read the part above attributed to Ken Berry but as I was surprised Ken had said this I checked back in this thread to find where and when he said it. The fact is he didn't it was originally posted by dhnj! Somewhere, someone has, edited the quotes tags.

I.m awfully glad someone else checked since I most definitely never said those things... (Thanks John!!) I will check myself, and anyone who falsified things and attributed them to me had better look out!

I was able to download the Corel DMF 7 SE and install it today. It still does not let me do what I am used to doing in VS Pro X2 which is not actually burn the disk but just create DVD folders on my hard drive. It does appear to let you create a DVD with NO MENU, so that the title just starts playing and loops endlessly when you insert the disk into the DVD player. I have created a number of videos for use at weddings or other gatherings where you just want them to keep looping. The new DMF 2010 which is part of X3 has the capability to force the titles to play before the menu comes up, but I can't seem to keep the titles just looping even though there is a check box for that under advanced options.

So far, I really don't see any reason to use VS X3. I can do everything I really need to do with VS X2. I was also unhappy to find that a project created by X3 is not backward compatible with X2. X2 just hangs when I try to open the X3 project.

Doug

PS - If I am creating a video file in X3 and want to burn it using DMF 7 or VS X2, what is the best (quality and rendering/converting time) format to create the video file in? I have tried both DVD mpeg and avi and they turned out OK.

Hi Doug and Welcome to the Forum.
DMF7SE works very much the same as the burn module in VS x2. in Create Disk you can choose to create DVD folders, Blu-Ray folders and now AVCHD folders. The AVCHD facility is something that you can't do in VS x2 so a big improvement there. The choice as to how the DVD will behave regarding looping is exactly the same as VS x2. If in the burn module you click the little cog wheel at the bottom left and look at the navigation all the usual choices are there. Also in DMF 2010 the same choices are there but this time the cog wheels are on the right hand side of the window.
So far as backwards compatibilty is concerned I don't know of any windows program that can do this. If you have new features in a later version of any program, if you could open a project in an earlier version then any new features that you have used would be lost. You can of course always save a project as an earlier version in the Save As window. VS x3 can save as VS 11 or 12 (x2). So far as your PS query is concerned that depends on what type of Disk you want to produce DVD, AVCHD or Blu-Ray.
All in all I think you will find that the new burn module fits the bill very nicely. It's just a pity that our beta testers were not listened to hard enough by Corel otherwise would have have had this incorporated within x3 instead of the fairly useless burn module we have now. Still in the end we have a great improvement on VS x2 IMHO

What you need to do is alter your working practice.
1. Edit with VSX3 which has far more options.
2. Go to the [Share] tab and select [Create Video]
3. When that has finished close VSX3, now you can open VSX2 (Or MF7SE)
4. In VSX2 go directly to the [Share] Tab and [Create Disk]
5. Import the video you just created at step 2 above.

And no version of VS will open a project file saved as a newer version. X2 will not open an X3 project. VS 11 will not open an X2 project. Etc., etc.

However, some of the newer versions (don't remember when it started) offer a nice feature where you can save a project as an older version so you can open it in an older version. For instance, in X3 go to File>Save As. In the Save As dialog box go to the Save As Type drop down and you will see you can save it as a v13 (X3), v12 (X2), or v11 project. If you save it as a v12 project you will be able to open it in X2.

Thanks to all for the advice. I did find the advanced option in MF7SE where I can create folders and not have to burn a disk. I used a DVD mpeg video which I created in VSX3 and MF7SE was fairly quick in creating the DVD folders - apparently it can use the mpeg video with very little processing. It would be nice if VSX3 gave you an option of using MF7SE instead. While I was playing around, I did use VSX2 to create the DVD folders using the mpeg video created in VSX3, but I did not go directly to the share step so it took longer to render.
Thanks again,
Doug

Yes it would, but......
We were never meant to have MF7SE in the first place, VSX3 has its own authoring module but it was so unpopular with the our members that Corel agreed to give us this SE version as a freebie.

I am still in two minds whether to upgrade from X2 to X3. Like most users here I downloaded the X3 TBYB version and, like most, I was suitably impressed with the editing module but hugely disappointed with the authoring module. So now it all depends on MF7SE, which of course I can't try before upgrading. What I've read of MF7SE on this forum is very positive, but I have a few unanswered queries:

1. Can MF7SE create iso files directly?
2. What menu templates come with it? Can it use the DF2010 templates which come with X3?

Thanks

OK, not to sound like too much of a dunder head but ... I'm trying to figure out what, if any, difference there is between VSX3 "patches" and the DMF7se download.

1. The "patch" for VSX3 (linked on pg 2 of this thread), is that a program fix (software update/fix) separate from the DMF7se download?

2. I found a download for DMF7se under the "Do More" - "Try" tab (Not the "Get More" tab). Is that a trial version or is that the actual full DMF7se version?

I had the trial version of VSX3 for several weeks and last week (More than three days ago) I bought the license online. My trial version became a full version and no longer asks me to buy VSx3. Yet, the only place I find anything about DMF7se in in the trial section (After clicking the super groovy icon with little dots surounding a down arrow in the menu bar).

In otherwords, I'm lost.
X3, X2 Pro, VS 11.5, C3DPS, Win 7 Pro, Intel i7 2600K, 8 gig sys RAM, XFX GeForce 8600 256mb, 1 tb WD Caviar Black, 2x 1tb separate temp/data file drives, Creative SB 24 bit.

DMF7SE will appear under the Do More / Get More system for the time being.
It will be included in the next VSX3 patch which has not yet been released.

It is a full version.

I would like to know the same answers. I purchased VSX3 and have not yet downloaded MF7SE. Since Corel is giving us this "freebie", what templates will we get? I have MF6+ and have always been very happy with it. I have read here and know people who have purchased MF7 as a CD and had to then jump through hoops to get the content pack from Corel (it didn't come on their purchased CDs). Am I to expect the same problems or will they charge me for the content pack since the SE was a "freebie"? I am currently reading up on how to at least transfer my templates from MF6+ if I have to,

Anyone out there that can answer these questions?

Thanks in advance
